Description
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Sports Director, this position is responsible for the direction of the Adult Basketball, Futsal Leagues, Pickleball and Volleyball in compliance with the standards, policies and procedures of the Ann Arbor YMCA. The Adult League Manager shall be responsible for registration, communication and overall coordination of leagues. It is expected that the league manager will possess leadership, organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to develop and grow the program.
Essential Functions:
Program Development:
- Monitor, and organize all Adult Leagues
- Oversee set up and break down of programs within the gymnasium.
- Ensure ongoing availability of programs to meet the needs of the community. Review and evaluate member participation and requests and communicate these findings to the Sports Director.
- Create equitable team rosters based on player evaluations.
- Create league schedules for the teams involved.
- Monitor and maintain league facilities and equipment.
- Speak with participants on a regular basis to ensure knowledge of schedules and rules. Attend scheduled staff meetings.
- Officiate games while promoting YMCA character values to ensure a positive early sports experience for all participants.
- Facilitate an environment where league participants can develop social skills such as cooperation, teamwork, negotiation skills, and verbal communication skills to resolve interpersonal conflicts.
- Ensure the safety of all participants that are taking part in the program and be prepared to respond in case of a medical emergency.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Exemplify a commitment to diversity and inclusion throughout the Association.
Read and respond to all YMCA communications including, but not limited to email daily.
Attend scheduled staff meetings.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Highschool degree or equivalent is required.
- One to three years’ related experience required.
- Minimum age requirements apply; minimum age of 21.
- Must be capable of using MS Office software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Must be able to learn and use YMCA specific software within 30 days of employment.
- Certifications in CPR & First Aid are required.
- Must successfully pass background check and complete YMCA Child Abuse Safety training prior to employment.
- Requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Coaching/sporting background is required inclusive of organizing games and activities. examples; teaching, training, or camp experiences.
- Knowledge of traditional sports (basketball, futsal, volleyball, pickleball) is required and experience with non-traditional sports such as Futsal, Lacrosse, frisbee golf and others is preferred.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- The ability to communicate and listen effectively as well as a willingness to learn, second language is a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Has a flexible schedule between the hours of 9:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m. Monday – Sunday. Program runs 3-4 days/week and schedules may change throughout the year.
- Ability to adapt work schedule to meet the needs of programmatic priorities during the summer and school year.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
- Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate program equipment and activities. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate camper activities and programs.

Salary Description
$14-17.50/hour
