The Boeing Company is currently seeking an Advanced Design and Prototype Solutions (ADaPS) Missile Defense Software Manager (Level K) to join (ADaPS) team located in Huntsville, AL.
Boeing’s Advanced Design and Prototype Solutions (ADaPS) organization in Huntsville, AL is looking for a Missile Defense Software Manager for embedded system development (within rockets) and/or missile defense concept development. The successful candidate will lead a team creating the next generation of patriot (PAC-3) missile system software and missile defense concepts. The team uses agile development practices to develop embedded software. The software runs on embedded processors with highly complex mathematical algorithms. The software interfaces to multiple high speed serial buses. The team is responsible for perception algorithm and requirements development, architecture and design of real-time code, unit and integration testing, and deployment to embedded systems.
ADaPS (an organization of over 100 software engineers) supports programs across the entire portfolio of Boeing products including Space Launch Systems (SLS) Upper Stage, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD – missile defense), Commercial Space Crew Transportation System (CST-100), and Advanced Missile Defense efforts including Patriot Advanced Capability. ADaPS specializes in implementing rapid prototyping and development programs using small, adaptable Agile teams.

Position Responsibilities:
- The software runs on a real time operating system on embedded processors and interfaces to multiple high-speed serial buses
- The team is responsible for perception algorithm and requirements development, architecture and design of object-oriented code, unit and integration testing using continuous development tools, and deployment to embedded systems
- Leads employees performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Software Engineering
- Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals
- Acquires resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements
- Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
- Provides guidance and approval of technical approaches, products and processes
- Leads, develops and motivates employees
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. (Huntsville, AL)
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
- This position requires US Citizenship
- Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree
- 3.5+ years of experience do you have in real-time, near real-time, or embedded systems
- Experience leading and managing a team
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
One or more of the following is desired:
- Experience with simulation development for RF systems
- Experience with radar technology
- Experience with EO/IR technology
- Experience with EVMS and other financial management toolsets
- Experience with Missile Defense
- Experience leading a software development team using Agile software development practices
- Experience with complex sensor processing or RF algorithm development
- Experience with FPGA or processor design
Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, or computer science (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD + 1 years , Master+2 years’ related work experience).
In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Travel:
Occasional travel may be required but would be less than 10%.
Relocation:
This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Note: Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.
Shift:
This position is for 1st shift.

Summary pay range: $132,600 – $179,400
