Program Description
Josephinum Apartments, located in downtown Seattle, is a mixed-income building of 221 units. A majority of units house low- to very low-income residents. We offer on-site supportive services to those in need while others live independently. The building is home to Christ Our Hope Catholic Church, a downtown parish of offices and a chapel. The Church conducts regular services and sponsors community activities. Strong relationships exist between its staff, parishioners, and the residents at the Josephinum.

Position Description

This position supports the Division Director in the daily service operations of the Josephinum through managing the supervision, staffing, scheduling, training, and reporting responsibilities for the Front Desk Advocates. We are looking for a person who is committed to the best practices of Housing First and who can balance the services and administrative responsibilities of this position.

The position requires a strong understanding of Housing First and Harm Reduction. This person must be fully committed to the mission of meeting people where they are at and must be committed to leading a team faced with the daily challenges that such an atmosphere creates.

THIS POSITION WORKS ONE WEEKEND DAY. REGULAR SCHEDULE WILL BE SUNDAY – THURSDAY OR TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY, WITH FLEXIBLE START/END TIMES FOR DAILY SHIFTS.

Responsibilities

Supervision / Leadership

  • Provide vision and leadership to the Front Desk Advocate staff.
  • Hire and train staff; conduct regular supervision and annual performance reviews.
  • In collaboration with the Division Director, develop and implement front desk policies and procedures; solicit staff and residents’ participation in setting policy and developing tools for evaluation.
  • Connect staff with on-going training and support around best practices in Housing First, Harm Reduction, Grief and Loss, Trauma-Informed Care and other relevant topics.
  • Update the front desk employee training manuals, forms and protocols with a focus on best practices.
  • Participate in on-site New Employee Orientation as new employees are hired.
  • Assure staff awareness and understanding of policies and of proper protocol for tenant-landlord law.
  • Track staff attendance at required trainings, as mandated by CHS.
  • Be available to staff during shifts and emergencies.
  • Set agenda and facilitate regular front desk staff meetings (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annually).
  • Delegate responsibilities as appropriate and encourage staff initiative.
  • Communicate with CHS Property Management and the Services Director to respond to resident issues and concerns.

Administrative Support

  • Coordinate monthly front desk staff schedules for 24/7 coverage (two advocate staff per shift).
  • Regularly update schedules in preparation for bi-monthly payroll completion.
  • Ensure building coverage is consistent.
  • Review ShiftNote loggings daily; ensure timely responses to log entries and coach staff on best practices.
  • Act as a liaison between Josephinum staff and Christ Our Hope Church.
  • Create a monthly newsletter for residents, including a calendar of service and church activities.

Other

  • Maintain regular, scheduled office hours. This is not a remote position.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies and share on-call responsibility.
  • Represent Catholic Housing Services to funders, city representatives, neighborhood associations and other service providers as requested by Division Director.
  • Develop and safe-keep a workplace that values and supports cultural diversity.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BA degree, or a combination of comparable experience, training and education.
  • Experience working with people who have experienced homelessness, particularly adults with mental illness and/or substance use issues.
  • One year of supervisory experience with proven ability to supervise multi-shift program.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrable understanding of and commitment to the principles of Housing First and Harm Reduction.
  • Ability to work within the mission, goals and service objectives of Catholic Housing Services.
