Job Description

The field engineer provides a broad spectrum of technical, field and administrative duties associated with construction management. The Field Engineer supports the Construction Manager and works with the Project Controls group to ensure timely and accurate reporting as directed by the client. Scope of duties include:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Investigate field conditions, review and process all requests for information (RFI), change directives CDs, submittals, contractor change requests, etc.
  • Update and maintain logs for all RFI’s, Shop Drawings, Change Directives (CD), Contractor Change Requests (CCR), Inspectors Job Memos, Inspectors Notices of Non-Compliance, Safety Notices and all incoming and outgoing construction correspondence
  • Review and process all contractor’s required project plans and submittals such as, but not limited to, safety plan, quality control plan, noise control plans, shop drawings, etc.
  • Coordinate and administer all construction related meetings including weekly progress meetings, pre-activity meetings, pre-construction meeting and all others as required (write and distribute minutes)
  • Project schedule review (baseline and weekly progress schedule) for constructability and compliance with all project requirements
  • Coordination field activities with client staff, FAA, Airfield Operations, Airport Police, other stakeholders, other projects and all affected utility companies such as LADWP, fuel line companies as directed by client
  • Take project photos as required to document problem areas, or other pertinent locations where disputed items may occur
  • Inspect construction operations and make recommendations to ensure that minimum quality control requirements are maintained
  • Coordinate with Contractor and client Inspector to review and process the Contractors’ monthly pay request including obtaining all required quantity estimates from Contractor, maintain project cost accounting system along with all required supporting documentation for each pay request
  • Coordinate all construction contract correspondence
  • Distribute documents and drawings; maintain document and drawing logs
  • Coordinate the change order process, including providing draft documents, along with maintaining all project files
  • Coordinate close out process including as-built drawings, punch list, technical manuals, warranties and other close out deliverables and documentation
  • Prepare periodic reports summarizing progress of construction activities for higher-level management and clients
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent is required
  • Must have 5 to 10 years of field engineering experience with three to five years directly supporting an active airfield construction project, preferably airside related construction and/or heavy roadway and paving
  • Demonstrated ability to understand technical and complicated construction program and the ability to communicate progress to both technical- and management-level personnel
  • Must possess the ability to effectively interact with various departments to maintain open lines of communication
  • Ability to work with others, a self-starter with results-driven focus
  • Proven accuracy, reliability and completeness in job accomplishment
  • Demonstrated success on the job, as evidenced by satisfactory performance, acceptance of responsibility and growth in previous position
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with an ability to communicate complex issues to non-technical audience
  • Preferred civil flat work experience – airports and road construction. Airport civil airfield work on runway, taxiway, apron and associated utilities
  • Have thorough knowledge of FAA Standards and requirements and shall have technical expertise in construction and construction management of airfield projects is preferable
  • Experience working with outside agencies i.e. General Services division, LADBS, LADWP, etc
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Prolog and other Project Management Systems is preferred
  • State of California Professional Engineer’s license is preferable

Offered rate of compensation will be based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and geographic location. The Salary range for this position is $70,000.00-$105,000.00.
