Their Airport Division operates the Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport (STS), the only local commercial service airport that offers air service directly into the North Bay region. Supporting up to 21 flights per day, STS has facilities for airline passenger services, cargo, private and corporate flights, recreational aircraft, law enforcement, emergency medical service, search and rescue, firefighting aircraft, and pilot training. As STS’s Airport Marketing Specialist, you will research and create educational and outreach materials and presentations that are geared towards increasing the public’s awareness of and enhancing their engagement with STS’s services. You will also play a lead role in conducting online engagement and developing internal communications, marketing, and branding materials. Additionally, you will:

  • Plan, develop, evaluate, and execute various marketing plans and communication campaigns to promote air service, general aviation, and community engagement
  • Draft the Airport’s marketing and advertising budget and track expenses
  • Create materials for print distribution and develop written and visual presentations for internal staff and the public
  • Oversee and coordinate the Airport terminal’s digital advertising program and related messaging
  • Present educational information at community outreach meetings and coordinate various Airport sponsored events such as airline launches, job fairs, and open houses
  • Coordinate media relations by identifying new opportunities, pitching stories, and coordinating interviews
  • Manage the Airport’s customer service database, email, and phoneline

As a self-starter and our ideal candidate, you will bring your experience working with graphic design; researching and developing marketing content through meetings with officials, staff, and outside experts; and interpreting staff reports, planning documents, and other technical files. You are a highly organized team player, with a passion for improving our community, and have the ability to communicate effectively across a wide audience You are also someone who thrives within a deadline-driven environment. Additionally, you bring multiple years of public relations experience involving the development and coordination of community outreach events, and experience:

  • Creating, writing, editing, implementing, and evaluating effective strategic messaging, branding, and marketing plans, social media content, and digital marketing strategies that reach diverse and underserved community members
  • Coaching staff on how to better engage the community, and researching and securing speaking opportunities
  • Taking photographs, creating videos, and coordinating photo/video projects with outside contractors
  • Effectively collaborating with external partners to promote joint projects

The position’s hours are normally Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm PST in an office environment. However, depending upon operational needs, may occasionally be required to work on evenings and weekends for special events in relation to marketing campaigns, public outreach events, plans, and other special events.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and/or experience that would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed.

Education and Experience: Normally, a Baccalaureate degree with emphasis in public administration, communications, journalism, public information, education, marketing or closely related field AND two years of full-time experience in marketing, public relations, or event management activities.

License: Possession of a valid driver’s license at the appropriate level including necessary special endorsements, as required by the State of California to perform the essential job functions of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: the principles, techniques and methods of promotions, marketing, advertising, media relationships, events planning, and coordination; procedures and practices relative to booking and scheduling events of both a community and commercial nature; principles of graphic design and production; techniques and methods of researching and preparing news releases, marketing plans, reports, and informational materials; fundamentals of public speaking; software applications used for desk-top publishing, data collections and word processing; English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; use of automated equipment, cameras and other related media preparation equipment; basic statistics and their application in analysis; modern office methods and procedures.

Ability to: plan, develop, organize, and implement mass communications; coordinate and staff trade shows booths at promotional events; coordinate public events; communicate orally and in writing in a clear, concise and effective manner; write and edit materials for publication; compile concise reports, letters, newsletters and other written materials; speak effectively and persuasively before diverse groups; work cooperatively with public community groups, members of the media and departmental staff; work with software applications used in event booking and website design; and use electronic information equipment and specific systems utilized by the department.
