Americas Sales Director, Startups

As AWS continues to rapidly grow, we seek a “leader of leaders” to own and scale out the startup customer segment in the Americas. The startup segment in the Americas is experiencing non-linear, double digit YoY growth. As the Americas Sales Director, Startups: you will continue to accelerate this direction, building strategy through execution and inspirational leadership. You will manage an organization experiencing double digit headcount growth, comprised of geographically focused Startup Sales Managers and their reports. You will be adept at delivering growth in early stage companies who are making their initial IT decisions. You will establish and maintain high-level relationships within key customers, driving innovation and capabilities for startups across infrastructure and business application landscapes. You will build and develop teams of sales managers who will execute on your strategy across the Americas. You will develop leaders in the Amazon mold who will continue to “raise the bar.”

In this role, you will lead teams who influence customers to leverage AWS to power their business and technology outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast growing and entrepreneurial organization, bringing innovation and growing the adoption of cloud for some of the most innovative and entrepreneurial companies in the world. This role will require you to understand the unique needs of early stage entrepreneurs, startup founders and developers. You will be responsible for developing opportunity pipelines, evangelizing cloud computing, and driving revenue and user adoption for this important group of customers. You will partner with the Startup BD team to build the AWS go-to-market strategy for this critical customer segment. Location of hire is flexible to major office hub locations across the US.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Scale out an integrated go-to-market team in a highly innovative and competitive environment
  • Develop and execute against a set of goals including revenue attainment, product usage, customer references, support, and training
  • Develop and lead a set of managers and leaders in the Americas Startup team.
  • Build and leverage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to further adoption of AWS services in the startup customer segment
  • Support all AWS operating cadences and represent a consolidated view of the Startup market to senior AWS leaders
  • Lead a Customer Obsessed business that delights our customers
  • Contribute as a key member of the global startup leadership team
  • Contribute as a key member of the Americas leadership team

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to travel 75% of the time
  • 10+ years of technology related sales management and field operations experience working for a software or cloud solutions vendor to startups, entrepreneurs and early stage companies
  • 5+ years of second line manager experience in sales organizations with 100+ headcount
  • Experience managing sales organizations with revenue of $500M+
  • Demonstrated experience developing leaders and cohesive teams with strong cultures
  • Demonstrated history of executing scalable sales programs across startup accounts while meeting/exceeding revenue targets
  • BA/BS degree required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrate a history of adhering to High Standards and using good judgement
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of startups, their life cycles, and the factors that impact their businesses.
  • Technical background
  • MBA is a plus

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $224,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $333,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. This position is eligible for variable pay via a sales compensation plan. These plans pay according to achievement level against sales targets and/or business objectives.
