Do you enjoy working hands-on? Are you knowledgeable of engineering principles, practices, and methods? Do you have experience with design programs and mapping software? Then look no further! The Virginia Department of Energy, Mined Land Repurposing Program, is seeking an AML Design Engineer to provide technical support for the Abandoned Mine Land (AML) Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical analysis and assistance, determining environmental impacts, developing project designs, managing project construction, and assisting with various Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization (AMLER) projects.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess some knowledge of mining practices, including historical coal mining techniques. Considerable knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in project design applying knowledge of earthmoving principles, field surveying, soil and rock mechanics, slope stability, hydrology, hydraulics, mine subsidence and acid mine drainage (AMD). Demonstrated ability and experience in the use of computer assisted design programs (such as AutoCAD) and computer mapping/GIS programs such as ArcGIS. Ability to apply engineering principles to the investigation of problem sites and determine if environmental, geotechnical, or subsidence problems are AML related. Demonstrated ability to design remedial measures, including complete plans and specifications, for mining-related environmental impacts and successfully manage construction projects in the field. The ability to prepare and present professional oral and written reports is required. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally, and in writing. Experience in performing mining, environmental, or civil engineering project design work is required. A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required.
This position has been designated as required to file a Statement of Economic Interest in accordance with Section 2.2-3114 of the Code of Virginia. The individual accepted for employment will have to pass a drug test with successful references as part of the Virginia Energy pre-employment process.
Additional Considerations
Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia is desirable. Previous contract/contractor management experience is desirable.
