Summary: Animal Care, handling, and monitoring of health andtemperament. This will allow hands on ability to meet the animals’ needs andprepare them for adoption.
EssentialFunctions of the Position
• Care for, feed, monitor, medicateand perform minor treatment on animals.
• Report observed health or behaviorissues to Adoptions Manager/Assistant Manager.
• Maintain adoption center by cleaninganimal cages, kennels, other animal areas, and floors.
• Assist prospective clients in theselection of animals for adoption and in the preparation of adoption forms.
• Provide administrative and customerservice support for the shelter: monitorthe front desk, answer inquiries by phone or in person, relay calls andrequests for service to the sheriff’s department,perform data entry, and maintain accurate records.
• Maintain database for the HumaneSociety of North Texas by entering accurate information for adopters andadoptable animals.
• Process animal transfers, animalredemptions, and animal intakes services and records. Receive and process feesfor various animal related services.
• Provide information to the publicabout Humane Society of North Texas programs and promote good animal care andresponsible pet ownership.
• Advise new owners of petexaminations, adoption benefits, policies and procedures.
• Provides humane education tocustomers.
• Collect and maintain accurate recordof payments for adoptions, donations, and merchandise for both Kaufman and the Humane Society of North Texas.
• Keep current inventory of necessaryprogram supplies and report shortages to Adoptions Supervisor/Assistant Manager.
• Maintain assigned equipment,supplies and vehicles in safe condition and report any problems or neededrepairs to the Adoptions Supervisor/Assistant Manager.
• Represent the Humane Society ofNorth Texas by providing excellent customer service and focus.
• Additional tasks assigned byAdoptions Supervisor/Assistant Manager.
Knowledge, Skill,and Abilities Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of this Position
• Thorough knowledge of the HumaneSociety of North Texas policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of Humane Society of NorthTexas policies and protocols, such as, but not limited to, admitting, cleaningand medical protocols.
• Working knowledge of breeds,diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior.
• Ability to handle animals safely andwith patience and gentleness.
• Ability to represent the HumaneSociety of North Texas and the City of Kaufman in a professionalmanner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff.
• Ability to create and sustainpositive working relationships within the Humane Society of North Texas andKeller Animal Control, with volunteers, the public, and be a team player.
• Must be patient, courteous and workwell under stressful conditions.
• Knowledge and ability to accuratelywork with detailed information in paper and computerized format.
• Must be detail oriented and havestrong time management skills.
• Ability to read, write andcommunicate effectively.
• Ability to learn and quickly adaptto changes in programs and procedures.
