Position Description
St. Johns County Division of Animal Control is seeking a Part Time Animal Care Technician to work at our St. Johns County Pet Adoption and Holding Center located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.

Examples of Duties
The ideal Part Time Animal Care Technician candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a collaborative team environment. The purpose of this position is to provide compassionate animal husbandry in the care of the Division of Animal Control and the Pet Center. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of division operations. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to:
- Clean and disinfect kennels.
- Feeds and waters animals.
- Monitors animals for illness and administers medications as instructed.
- Assists Veterinary Technicians with euthanasia when necessary.
- Provides facility tours to the general public.
- Assists with socialization of animals.
- May assist other division staff in carrying out projects or assigned duties.
- Maintains a full-time presence of the job.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Candidates for the Part Time Animal Care Technician are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Must be able to work weekend and holiday work shifts.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
- Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
- Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
- Must be able to operate a computer.
