Primary Purpose
Performs facility cleaning and assists with basic care of animals.
Supervision
Under the direct supervision of the Animal Control Manager and general daily guidance of the Lead Animal Control Technician.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide basic care for animals, including routine provisions for food and water.
- Perform general cleaning in other areas of the Animal Control Facility, inclusive of sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash receptacles, scrubbing walls and windows, etc.
- Cleans, disinfects, and maintains all kennels, pens, and cages as often as necessary to ensure none are soiled and odors are not apparent. Washes and sanitizes water and food bowls. Launders and dries towels and blankets.
- Prepares, retains, & maintains various reports and logs as required.
- Provide basic customer service, including answering phones and assisting the public; not inclusive of handling animals.
- Deals effectively and courteously with fellow employees and the public.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Important Duties
- Participates in special events hosted by Republic Animal Control, inclusive of assisting with the preparation and public outreach efforts, and event setup, facilitation, and tear down processes as necessary.
- Attends various meetings & training sessions deemed appropriate by supervisor or department head.
- Maintains appropriate supplies for assigned area.
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.
- Experience in animal care facility preferred.
- Customer service experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Must have a basic understanding of janitorial skills and responsibilities, including but not limited to being familiar with the use of chemical mixing stations, auto scrubbers, carpet cleaning machines, etc. Must have knowledge regarding the proper use of commercial cleaning chemicals and professional cleaning practices including working safely in public spaces. Must have good time management skills; Must be able to handle stressful situations, quickly assess or judge situations; make decisions under pressure in areas of responsibility.

Special Requirements
- Must possess a valid Missouri State Driver’s License.
Miscellaneous Requirements
- May be required to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays.
- Subject to emergency call-in.
- Must be a dependable person due to the small size of the work force.
- May be subject to random substance abuse testing.

Physical Demands
Must perform bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, kneeling and reaching to ground level and overhead; lifts and carries up to 50 pounds from ground level to 3 feet; Must be able to reach, hold and grip; Must have the manual dexterity to work a computer; Must be able to push and pull 100 pounds; Must be able to walk, sit, stand, or run for prolonged periods; Must be able to run for brief periods. Must be able to climb such things as ladders, step stools and stairs. Must be able to distinguish colors for animal identification and tag coding system.
Work Environment
May be exposed to extreme weather, dust or pollen, toxic fumes, chemicals or smoke, contagious diseases, electrical or mechanical hazards and extreme noise; May have to work with poor ventilation and no natural lighting; May work in confined places and awkward positions; Subject to the threat of being bitten due to the handling of animals.
