POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for coordinating aspects of special on-site and off-site events and programs including adoptions, foster care, rescue placements, and more; act as primary resource in customer service interactions; assist in animal care-related tasks including, but not limited to, cleaning kennels, sanitizing kennels, handling, feeding, medicating, vaccinating, evaluating, and socializing animals; work in conjunction with staff, volunteers, and community members to achieve a consistent live release rate of at least 90% on a monthly basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Promotes and expands public awareness of available on-site shelter programs and services, notably the awareness of available animals both within and outside of the shelter through social media and city websites
  • Works with Animal Control Director to facilitate and grow adoption-, foster-, rescue-, and support-related initiatives
  • Facilitates post-adoption communications to ensure a lasting match, identify adjustment issues early, and help resolve them
  • Establishes professional relationships with animal rescue organizations
  • Educates potential adopters and foster parents on animal care
  • Encourages a positive shelter image through brand-building activities and outstanding customer service
  • Staffs front counter as needed and assists the public and volunteers in person and on the telephone in a manner that demonstrates the shelter’s interest, care, and concern for the public
  • Processes mail and e-mail related to duties, record keeping, and data entry
  • Performs general animal care and maintenance
    • Promotes a humane and caring attitude toward all animals and treats them humanely, properly, and with compassion at all times
    • Inputs animal updates into the shelter management program for accurate tracking
    • Assists with daily cleaning, feeding, and medicating activities
  • Provides attention to enrichment and behavior rehabilitation needs of animals
  • Performs duties in a manner that encourages attainment of goals, contributions, and business for the shelter and its programs
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Must be able to work the allocated hours of the position, including weekends and holidays, and be willing to report for duty on short notice
  • May be required to transport animals on an as needed basis with direction from the Director of Animal Control
  • Will be required to do some travel

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or its equivalent (GED)
  • One (1) year full-time or part-time paid responsible administrative or clerical experience
  • Some experience performing as a volunteer at an animal welfare agency or customer service associate
  • Training and experience using a personal computer with a variety of software including Microsoft Office

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License
    • Reliable transportation and liability insurance
  • Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:

Employees are required to work a minimum of 40 hours per week in order to receive benefits. The position you are currently considering is a part-time position and will be eligible for the following benefits.
