Description
Performs all functions necessary to fulfill the role of the Animal Services Investigator, to include but is not limited to, animal bite investigations, aggressive and dangerous dog investigations, and animal cruelty investigations. Enforces County Ordinances relating to domestic animals, and provides support for law enforcement agencies pertaining to laws and regulating animal treatment.
Acts as Officer Team Lead. Provides in-service training for new Animal Services Officers.
**Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.
**Additional compensation based on licensure.
Essential Functions

Investigates allegations of, animal bites, aggressive/dangerous dogs and animal neglect/cruelty in accordance with Florida State Statute and Seminole County Code.
Refers severe cruelty cases to Law Enforcement and assist as needed.
Handling, capturing, and impounding domestic animals, non-venomous reptiles, sick, injured, and aggressive wildlife, removes remains of deceased animals from County roadways, and other animal related issues.
Issues warnings and citations to owners of animals in violation of State of Florida and Seminole County codes.
Administers the citation process for the division, to include citation tracking.
Performs duties as Notary Public.
Maintains records of all investigations. To include case numbers and final dispositions.
Acts as Custodian of Records for the division. Processes requests for public record request pertaining to investigations.
Prepares reports and case files to be used a records on behalf of the County and State Attorney, may provide testimony, as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED, and two (2) years of documented work experience as an Animal Control Officer.
Certification as an Animal Control Officer required.
Cruelty Investigator certification required within 12 months.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Additional Requirements
Knowledge of law and regulations pertaining to animal control. Knowledge of techniques utilized in the safe capture of all animal species.
Knowledge of State and local laws concerning animal bites and quarantine periods. Work closely with the Health Department for reporting and technical assistance.
Knowledge of geographical road system of Seminole County.
Ability to communicate in a professional and courteous manner with general public in emotional and aggressive situations; both orally and in writing.
Skilled in handling of various species of animals, that may be dangerous, without injury to self, others, or animals.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Must be inoculated against rabies prior to completion of probationary period.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including day and evening shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Required to respond after hours, when assigned to be on call.
All employees must attend Seminole County Required Training.

Competitive Wages: Our compensation system includes competitive hiring salaries. Paid Time Off: New full-time employees accrue 20 days per year of Paid Time Off (16 days for 24-hour shift personnel). New part-time employees accrue 83 hours per year of Paid Time Off. Accrual rates increase with service time.

Health Insurance:Health Insurance is effective the first of the month after completing 30 calendar days of employment. Seminole County offers a Point of Service (POS) plan. Life Insurance: Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance for employees, equal to one times annual salary. Not extended to part-time employees.
Long-Term Disability: Provides 60% of salary after 6 months of disability. Not extended to part-time employees.

Deferred Compensation Plan (457): Employees may choose to have pre-tax payroll deductions made for deposit into this savings plan up to an IRS-established maximum.
Dental Insurance: A choice of 3 plans is available for employees and dependents at employee expense.
Additional Life Insurance: At employee expense, additional life insurance up to five times annual salary; dependent coverage also available.
Short-Term Disability Insurance: 60% of salary for the first six months of disability at employee expense.
Cancer and Specified Disease: Pays a benefit directly to the employee if being treated for this disease.
Flexible Spending Account: Apre-tax account for childcare and un-reimbursed medical expenses.
Pre-Tax Payroll Deductions: Under Section 125 of the IRS Code, certain payroll deductions for insurance coverage may be taken out prior to income being taxed.
