The Manatee County Public Safety Department consists of six divisions each serving a special purpose or function to ensure the safety of our citizens and to preserve or enhance the quality of life in the County. The Public Safety Department works daily with citizens, elected officials and other county law enforcement and fire agencies toward these ends. The common thread among these Public Safety divisions is that they respond directly to the needs of the citizens of Manatee County, often for emergencies and sometimes for routine community services.
As an Animal Services Officer I – you will be responsible for enforcement of Animal Ordinance 22-16. You will work independently responding to various calls throughout the county including picking up sick, injured, and healthy stray animals, barking complaints, bite investigations and animal neglect and cruelty. This will also include educating citizens on the Ordinance. You will be handling domestic and wildlife animals with a varying behavior.

Qualify for Animal Services Officer II if -two (2) years’ experience as an Animal Services Officer I. Certification from the Florida Animal Control Association as an Animal Control Officer.

Minimum Qualifications
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must successfully complete the Florida Animal Control Officer certification training course within one (1) year of employment.
- Valid driver’s license with valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
Desired Skills
- Prior experience in animal handling and/or law enforcement desired.
