Animal Welfare Corporate Director

We are looking for an Animal Welfare Corporate Director for JBS Regional and Fed Beef that reports to the Corporate Office in Greeley, Colorado.

The focus of this role is the technical services side of the business, specifically in the Animal Welfare and Handling area, assisting in creating and managing the animal welfare programs, guiding the facilities to meet regulatory requirements alongside company requirements, assist in the preparation for customer and third party audits. This includes working with multiple departmental leaders and associates at the corporate and facility locations to provide information and reports to enhance decision making and improve processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist facilities in creating and managing animal welfare and handling programs and implementation of the programs
  • Oversee the writing, implementation, and maintenance of the facilities’ SOPs for animal welfare and handling
  • Visit the regional beef and fed beef facilities on a consistent basis to align processes and ensure compliance to programs
  • Create new SOPs for the facilities and maintain/update existing SOPs.
  • Understand the principles of animal welfare and handling and have the ability to implement them within the company programs and facility actions
  • Complete understanding of USDA-FSIS regulatory requirements for animal welfare and handling and have the ability to interpret the requirements to the facilities and the organization to maintain compliance
  • Maintaining animal welfare auditing databases for the collection of data for the Animal Welfare Index
  • Analyzing data and preparing written reports of findings, sharing of information with other departments within JBS
  • Participation in industry organization’s Animal Welfare and Care committees on behalf of JBS Beef
  • Manage overall beef certified PAACO Meat Plant Auditor list encompassing all beef facilities, to include providing resources for continuing education
  • Oversight of Animal Welfare audits in the Safety Chain system, creation of any new audits for animal welfare related tasks, follow up on completed audits with facilities
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Meat Science, Ag. Economics or equivalent experience
  • PAACO Certification for Meat Plant Auditor
  • 5 years in a production role or related experience or deemed equivalent experience
  • Strong organizational skills and acute attention to detail
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and ask questions as needed.
  • Excellent communicator in both verbal and writing areas
  • Ability to travel to facilities on average 40-50%
  • As a salaried position with the company, you may be required to travel at some point to other facilities, to attend Company events, or as a representative of the Company in other situations. Unless otherwise specified in this posting, the amount of travel may vary and the most qualified candidate must be willing and able to travel as business needs dictate.

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:

  • Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment;
  • Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays;
  • 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule;
  • Base salary range of $100,000-$110,000; and
  • Incentive Pay: This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program;

This compensation range is specific to the State of Colorado and takes into account various factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to a candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiencies for the role.
