The Apparel Designer for Technical Outerwear is responsible for maintaining and pushing the design identity, color, graphics, fit, form, function, construction, and all other technical aesthetic and functional aspects of the products assigned to him/her.
- Successfully completes assigned tasks, creates compelling and innovative designs, thinks outside the box, solves problems, and changes the world.
- Builds technical specification packages that represent designs and meet various targets set as per verbal or written brief from category director.
- Creates sketches, mood boards, mock-ups, sew-by samples, prototypes or other representations of the design as appropriate to support each specific project.
- Generates appropriate color options, product graphics, logos, and other markings.
- Selects appropriate materials and manufacturing processes in collaboration with materials engineering, quality and development.
- Works closely with the Developer to ensure the selected vendor is building products to the design intent through proto-reviews and fittings.
- Builds and adheres to the design and timeline requirements of the assigned project timely and accurate manner.
- Presents designs, prototypes and project status in regular design reviews.
- Researches new materials and technologies for potential use for Black Diamond products.
- Travels domestically and internationally to conduct research, work with vendors, attends tradeshows and perform other job-related functions.
Requirements
Education Preferred: Master’s/Bachelor’s Degree in Design or other related field
Work Experience Required: 10 years of post graduation experience in Apparel Design
Skills and general experience:
Must demonstrate a track record of leadership in innovative, creative and compelling designs. Must demonstrate the ability to sketch, create technical drawings and model products in a way that clearly communicates design intent. Must possess an in-depth knowledge of fit and patterning. Thoroughly understands the trends and activities for which we design products. In addition, this position requires the ability to independently conduct product research, present projects, communicate clearly, manage a design calendar, time management skills and ability to meet deadlines, advanced Illustrator skills and other basic computer skills. Experience with a web based PLM/PDM system. Strong presentation, communication and inter personal skills are essential. Must thrive in a high paced and changing environment with a seasonal workflow.
