Job Duties
Do you enjoy working hands-on? Are you knowledgeable of geologic practices and procedures? Do you have experience leading diverse geological work? Then look no further! The Virginia Department of Energy, Geology and Mineral Resources program, is seeking an Applied Geology Section Manager to supervise and lead the Applied Geology Section of GMR. This position will be responsible for managing performance, serving as the Principal Investigator on geoscience projects, providing technical support, and distributing geologic information to the public.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must possess considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of geology. Must have the ability to plan, supervise, and perform diverse applied geological work, including work related to economic geology, energy resources, water resources, and geologic hazards. Ability to interpret and communicate investigation results to customers and stakeholders. Ability to use computers effectively in technical and administrative matters. Ability to establish and manage personnel, finances, and resources and oversee product delivery. Ability to stoop, crawl, bend, and walk distances over rough terrain. Considerable experience completing applied geologic projects. Considerable experience using GIS and relational databases to compile and analyze geologic information. Experience writing and editing grant proposals and technical reports. Progressively responsible experience and competence in geology and project management.
This position has been designated as required to file a Statement of Economic Interest in accordance with Section 2.2-3114 of the Code of Virginia. The individual accepted for employment will have to pass a drug test and successfully complete reference checks as part of the Virginia Energy pre-employment process.
