This is a temporary to permanent hire Service Contract Act position with an hourly pay rate of $ 24.60 that includes a Health and Welfare Benefit of $4.41 an hour.

Service Contract Act, or SCA, position pay rates are determined by the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division.

Upon completion of six (6) months of employment, the selected candidate can expect an annual salary as a permanent full-time employee with the federal contractor.

Paralegal
Qualifications:

  • Requires Paralegal Certificate, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one (1) year of study
    • One (1) year of legal training or legal experience or at least two (2) years of college education may be substituted for the Paralegal Certificate
    • At least one (1) year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research
    • Thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems
    • Basic familiarity with Electronically Stored Information, ESI, tools and knowledge of e-Discovery procedures and resources, E-Discovery Reference Model, EDRM
    • Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important
    • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Paralegal
Responsibilities/Duties:

    • Works with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), federal law enforcement officers, and support staff to prepare cases for litigation
    • Obtains records, documents, and evidence from federal law enforcement agencies and via the legal process
    • Reviews and analyzes case material to become familiar with the facts and circumstances of the case
    • Examines, prepares, and processes a variety of legal documents
    • Maintains, manages, and organizes case material utilizing software, including databases, spreadsheets, and word processing applications
    • Maintain legal and general office files
    • Notes deficiencies in the uploading of case materials and missing materials and undertakes inquiries to correct deficiencies
    • Works with litigation support to resolve any issues related to the intake, processing, and dissemination of discovery
    • Assists AUSAs in producing discovery to defense counsel
    • Organizes and coordinates discovery distribution, including producing indexes and logs
    • Reviews, screens, and controls incoming/outgoing mail/express deliveries, receives telephone calls and visitors
    • Maintains AUSA and court calendars, and schedules conferences
    • Prepare and generate routine correspondence with law enforcement agencies, members of the judiciary, or other AUSAs
    • Assists staff and witnesses with travel arrangements as needed
    • Receive and review incoming correspondence and mail; forward each item to the appropriate AUSA of staff
    • Use a variety of applications to search and retrieve information necessary to complete assigned tasks: e.g., an internal case management database, files located on shared file network, and external sources such as court records
    • Some physical exertion such as moderate periods of standing; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching; pushing supply carts; or recurring lifting (up to 50 lbs.) of moderately heavy items such as boxes of cases or supplies
