Description
Duties and Responsiblities
- Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of aquatics facilities and populations;
- Trains, supervises, and evaluates the Aquatics Specialist to ensure efficient and effective operations of the aquatic facilities and programs
- Manages the scheduling of aquatic staff to ensure proper coverage at any aquatics facility;
- Manages the aquatics budget by monitoring revenues and expenditures to assure sound fiscal control and prepares annual budget requests;
- Coordinates with other Parks & Recreation Program Coordinators for programs that involve both pools;
- Assists Facilities Maintenance with all chemical and filter system maintenance in the indoor and outdoor pools (including day-to-day maintenance, cleaning, start-up, shutdown);
- Manages special projects as needed;
- Manages contractual agreements for aquatics work;
- Demonstrates excellent Customer Service skills;
- Ability to represent department and participate in City-wide committees as needed;
- Provides leadership and direction in the development of short- and long-range plans. Gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations;
- Plans, develops and implements aquatic programs and coordinates staffing needs in the implementation of the programs;
- Responds to public inquiries about aquatics programs made by telephone, correspondence, or during public meetings;
- Promotes interest and provides information regarding aquatics programs to school officials, other recreation officials, community service groups, other departments, and the general public;
- Oversees the safety, maintenance and cleanliness of the swimming pools and ensures that pools are in compliance with state and federal regulations;
- Monitors and ensures safety of the participants in aquatic programs. Establish and modify existing safety guidelines to ensure aquatic environments are safe for participants and spectators. Develops new safety guidelines as needed;
- Performs costs analysis for developing new programs; prepare accurate financial records, activity reports, and other required documentation as requested;
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Thorough knowledge of recreation software administration and has the ability to train staff;
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in parks and recreation, health and physical education or a related field
- Valid driver’s license
- Possession of or ability to obtain Aquatic Facility Operator Certification (or its equivalent)
- Possession of or ability to obtain First Aid, CPR, ARED, and Lifesaving certifications
- Possession of or ability to obtain Lifeguard Instruction and Water Safety Instructor certifications
