Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head Lifeguard to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and have a passion for water safety. As Head Lifeguard, you will be responsible for overseeing the safety of all swimmers, maintaining a clean and organized pool area, and providing exceptional customer service.
The Head Lifeguard will assist the aquatics operations supervisors in the daily operation of Pirates Bay Waterpark and Calypso Cove. Performs lifeguard duties in accordance with American Red Cross Waterpark Lifeguard training and City policies. Assists in maintaining pool area in a safe and sanitary condition. Responsible for management of a lifeguard team through conducting skill practice, in-services, audits and maintaining attendance records.
Duties
- Responsible for safety and general welfare of all patrons while exhibiting excellent guest service skills.
- Supervises lifeguards on a daily basis in accordance with City policies.
- Assists in preparing the pool for seasonal and daily operations (opening and closing).
- Assists in teaching lifeguard classes, CPR classes, and park training in the pre-season and continued skill training through in-services throughout the season.
- Responsible for the cleanliness of the pool area.
- Assists in the recruitment of seasonal Lifeguards.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Minimum of 17 years of age
- One year/season of waterpark lifeguard experience.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certified.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certified or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
PREFERRED:
- One or more seasons as a Lifeguard with the City of Baytown.
- Bilingual English/Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to use good judgment and make decisions quickly and to solve problems involving several variables in ordinary and abnormal situations and apply knowledge and good judgment to find a solution. Personal judgment is needed when there are no written policies or procedures and errors in one’s judgment may cause bodily injury or significant liability. Good judgment in safety and facility operations, make quick, concise, and correct decisions that may affect the health, safety, and wellbeing of guests and aquatic staff members. CPR, ability to apply lifeguard techniques; ability to identify unsafe practices and individuals in danger, ability to organize, teach and practice skills. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.
Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
