POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the general direction of the Parks, Recreation & Aquatics Director, this position is responsible for assisting in the implementation of and supervision of activities, programs, staff, and special events at the Fife Aquatic Center. The Aquatics Leader 3 will act in a lead role and will assist in giving direction to Aquatics Leader 2, Aquatics Leader 1, and lifeguard/swim instructor positions. Must maintain flexibility and be available to meet with supervisory staff as required. Hours of work vary and include evenings and weekends.
This position reports directly to the Assistant Parks, Recreation & Aquatics Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Any single position may not be assigned all duties listed below, nor do the examples cover all the duties that may be assigned. Each Aquatics Leader 3 will be assigned to a program supervisor and will be responsible for those duties that apply.
- Site leads Swim Lessons as assigned.
- Assists in facilitating special projects and programs with staff and community partners.
- Supervises activities at Aquatic Center.
- Assists with the leadership of PT staff and program participants.
- Attends and assists in all staff meetings as required.
- Communicates feedback between participants and program supervisor.
- Prepares necessary documentation.
- Performs cashier and front desk reception responsibilities.
- Answers public questions regarding programs and facilities.
- Monitors the maintenance of equipment, supplies, and facilities.
- Maintains compliance with all applicable City, County, and State laws and City ordinances, policies, and procedures at all times.
- Performs minor maintenance / custodial duties.
- Performs facility opening and closing responsibilities.
- Utilizes REC1 software system to process program registrations, “point-of-sale” transactions, and updating of client/patron accounts.
- Meets regularly with the program supervisor.
- Assists with conducting staff meetings.
- Develops and maintains a positive and supportive staff team.
- Inventory control of first aid, janitorial supplies, and office equipment.
- Mentors new lifeguards and swim instructors.
- Assists in evaluating staff.
- Assists in conducting in-service training.
- Performs duties as a swim instructor.
- Performs duties as a lead lifeguard.
- Performs and records pool chemical testing.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum four years related experience.
- Must be at least 18 years old at time of hire.
REQUIRED LICENSES/TRAINING:
- Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, Blood-Borne pathogens, AED, and Lifeguard Training.
OTHER PREFERRED SKILLS: (not required)
- WSI or Swim America Certified.
- Lifeguard Instructor Trainer.
- AFO or CPO certification.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Working knowledge of aquatic programs, services, and appropriate activities for toddlers, youth, and teens; strong interest in working with toddlers, youth, and teens.
- Interact effectively and professionally with a wide variety of program participants and community members.
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations.
- Supervise the maintenance of equipment, supplies, and facilities.
- Independently initiate and complete work activities.
- Ability to work with participants and city staff, teens, and co-workers from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
- Possess strong communication skills with the ability to understand and give verbal and written instructions.
- Knowledge of and ability to utilize conflict-resolution strategies.
- Explain and enforce facility and program guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Strong background in aquatic programs, swimming techniques, and philosophies.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with program participants, city staff, volunteers, and the general public.
- Ability and willingness to work irregular hours, especially evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Attend all staff meetings as required.
- Ability to demonstrate effective problem-solving skills with facility renters and program patrons.
- Maintain a professional appearance and wear program uniform as required.
- Strong interest in working with toddlers and young children under 12 years old.
- Accurately and effectively respond to the Swim Center’s Emergency Action Plan.
- Knows the levels of each swimmer in his/her class, knows the skills to be taught in the class, and knows how to effectively and safely manage and teach the class-appropriate swimming skills.
- Knows the procedure and techniques to handle general first aid situations.
- Attend all staff-required in-services and training.
- Maintain all required certifications including blood-borne pathogens, AED, 1st Aid, CPR, and lifeguard training.
- Meet necessary swimming skills to effectively teach swim lessons to and through all 10 levels of the learn-to-swim program.
