The Aquatics Operations Coordinator will be responsible for the operations of the aquatic programs and facilities. You will be responsible for the performance of approximately 200+ hourly lifeguards in addition to directly overseeing the respective leadership of the division. You will also have primary oversight of the programming standards, systems and practices as they directly impact the overall guest experience.

Duties

  • Responsible for managing the daily operations of the Operations division. This includes safety/aquatic risk management, recruiting, hiring, and training of all lifeguards and swim instructors. Ensures the division is complying with all local health department regulations and related activities that will ensure a safe and successful aquatic operation.
  • Effectively manages all personnel in a manner that reinforces the City’s Core Values and complies with City policies. Manages the supervisory leadership staff and lifeguards by providing feedback on performance and personal development.
  • Assists in processing payroll by entering employee information into the computer system, verifying time is entered correctly, and transmitting payroll information to the appropriate departments.
  • Ensures all aquatic facilities are always clean, orderly and safe in compliance with City and public health standards and guest expectations.
  • Conducts regular meetings and education sessions for direct reports.
  • Responsible for all aquatic programs and services from creation through execution. Ensures proper systems are implemented to drive participation and guarantee all programs meet the needs of the guests.
  • Assists in the delivery of division services as required, including providing specific services as qualified to do so by training (training checklists, in-service for lifeguards, instructing a class, facilitating program activities, etc.).
  • Updates and establishes division policies and procedures, training, and safety protocols. Enforces all division, department and City policies.
  • Meets regularly with the Aquatics Superintendent and other division heads/supervisors to ensure there is complete cooperation between divisions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Two years’ experience in a professional level management role running an Aquatic facility
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
  • Demonstrated prior supervisory experience
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and current American Red Cross Waterpark Lifeguarding certification

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, certification and/or licenses sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job

PREFERRED:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor/Trainer
  • Prior supervisory experience of high-volume part time staff
  • Bilingual/Spanish

Knowledge and comprehension of community recreation and programs, including accepted standards, principles, concepts and related legislative mandates. Ability to maintain overall customer satisfaction and enjoyment. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with an assortment of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in several formats and deals with abstract variables. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.

Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work more than 40 hours a week. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
