Job Summary

We are looking for experienced lifeguards who specialize in providing an excellent customer experience to join our Aquatics team in Operations as we start gearing up for the next season!

The Operations Supervisor supervises the daily operations of the City of Baytown Aquatics Facilities with primary responsibilities being the safety of the staff, guests, and facility. Will oversee guest flow, developing relationships, overseeing activities and services to ensure the division is caring for the guests. Teach and train all lifeguards and perform duties to ready the Water Parks for opening (January – May). Performs lifeguard duties in accordance with American Red Cross Waterpark Lifeguard training and City policies. Assists in maintaining pool area in a safe and sanitary condition. Responsible for management of a Head Lifeguard team through conducting skill practice, in-services, audits and maintaining attendance records.

During winter season at Town Square: Provides for a guest focused environment. Must be available to work late nights and weekends at times.

Duties

  • Teaching lifeguard, CPR classes, and Park training for all new and returning employees.
  • Effectively manages personnel in a manner that reinforces the facility’s values and philosophies through open communication, training, coaching, counseling, and evaluating personnel in compliance with City policies, to include lifeguards and swim instructors.
  • Ensures all aquatic facilities are always clean, orderly and safe in compliance with City and public health standards and meets guests’ expectations.
  • Completes all required forms and documents in a timely, and effective manner.
  • Coordinates, implements, and delivers all aquatic programs and services. Ensures proper systems are implemented to guarantee that the facility programs meet the needs of the guests and drives participation in such a manner as to create guest delight.
  • Responsible for providing an unmatched level of service for all guests (facility rentals, daily users, season pass holders, program participants).
  • Assists in the delivery of division services as required, including providing specific services as qualified to do so by training (training checklists, in-service for lifeguards, instructing a class, facilitating program activities, etc.).
  • Meets regularly with the Aquatics Coordinator to ensure there is complete cooperation between divisions.
  • Assists in the recruitment of seasonal Lifeguards.
  • During winter season at Town Square: Provides for a guest focused environment. Must be available to work late nights and weekends at times. Supervises handling of ticketing and money in accordance with City Cash Handling Procedures policy – this includes daily deposits and trips to the bank to make change.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • High School diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Two years/seasons of waterpark lifeguard experience.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certified.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certified or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.

PREFERRED:

  • Some post-secondary education
  • One or more seasons as a Head Lifeguard or Operations Supervisor with the City of Baytown.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

Personal judgment is needed when there are no written policies or procedures and errors in one’s judgment may cause bodily injury or significant liability. Good judgment in safety and facility operations, make quick, concise, and correct decisions that may affect the health, safety, and well being of guests and aquatic staff members. CPR, ability to apply lifeguard techniques; ability to identify unsafe practices and individuals in danger, ability to organize, teach and practice skills. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.

Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
