Position Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) has an immediate need for a dynamic Architect in our growing Design Build Group. You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes architectural, structural, geotechnical, civil, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, electrical and is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure related buildings projects.
The successful candidate will help further develop the technical integrity of the infrastructure facilities and transit design group in the eastern United States and support design efforts in North America. We are interested in someone who is passionate, self-motivated, and has a strong desire to forward the field of infrastructure architecture and facilities in the US; someone who can appropriately apply innovative technical solutions to solve problems and provide services to our clients.
District Overview
Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering’s Design-Build team is driving clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design-build projects. Through our integrated design and construction approach, our multi-disciplinary team works together to improve schedule, control costs and minimize risk. Our construction-focused engineers work collaboratively with our estimators and builders to design solutions that are innovative, constructible, and designed with a focus on safety. Clients benefit from the proven processes and tools used by Kiewit to minimize project risk. We are an in-house resource that supports projects throughout the company. Location
This position can be based out of our New York City or Woodcliff Lake, NJ office.
Responsibilities
The Architect will work with our highly successful regional team of architects and facility design professionals and lead quality projects for a diverse range of public and private-sector clients. These projects will include the design of transit facilities and stations, infrastructure support facilities, bridge structures and supporting aviation infrastructure. The successful candidate will implement QA/QC procedures and support a culture of quality among the team and practice.
The position requires excellent communication skills, both written and oral, to proactively manage and respond to requests and needs from other technical practices within Kiewit. Additionally, the position requires excellent interpersonal skills, used for personnel management, performance reviews, career development, and coordination of personnel resources as required by project needs. • Provides professional architectural consulting in the planning, design and coordination of project assignments. Makes recommendations on design alternatives.
• Applies diverse knowledge of architectural principles and practices in broad array of assignments. Independently makes decisions on significant architectural design problems and methods. Has full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating architectural design assignments.
• Responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned project, including investigation, evaluation and recommendation of design solutions that best meet the client’s need. Frequently researches unusual and non-recurring problems.
• Independently applies advanced architectural concepts and designs. Carries out assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
• May provide technical guidance to less experienced architects.
• May assist with proposal preparation/business development.
Qualifications
• 7+ years of experience designing major infrastructure facilities and/or architecture projects in the eastern US and nationally.
• Works closely with the Infrastructure Facilities Lead in planning and implementing all work processes.
• Ability to lead and guide the production of construction documents for major infrastructure facility projects including effectively communicating the criteria to the project team and monitoring its compliance through the QC program.
• Develops and presents lead technical viewpoint on projects and ensures KIE systems are used to deliver the design in a standardized manner. Ensures that a technical solution, consistent with the program and design is properly developed and produced.
• Prepare and document required code compliance and material and product research.
• Verbal and written communication skills including the ability to write technical memos and papers, and present technical topics.
• Has overall responsibility for coordination with sub-consultants and review
• Supervises work of less experienced architects and team members. Responsible for all project work planning and scheduling.
• Assists with the promotion, discipline, performance review, work allocation, training and mentoring of staff.
• Proficient in use of BIM and CAD platforms, including Autodesk Revit, and Sketchup and/or Rhino, and familiarity with related tools and processes
• Experience with Microsoft Office suite, Project Management and Scheduling software
• Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Prior experience in oversight of architecture in the construction of transportation facilities
• Experience and/or interest in sustainable design. LEED and / or Envision professionals highly desired.
• Knowledge of visualization tools and processes a plus (Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, 3-D Studio Max, Rhino, Grasshopper)

Base Compensation: $115,000 – $150,000
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
