An Excellent Opportunity
We are seeking an enthusiastic Area Membership Manager to lead the 9-person Membership team, serving communities in DC, Arlington County, the City of Alexandria, and NE Fairfax County. This Manager and their team ensure Girl Scout membership growth and retention and lead volunteer management, conflict resolution, and community outreach.
Here’s What You Will Be Doing
- Oversee the measurable growth of Girl Scout recruitment and retention through in-depth analysis of each Membership assignment.
- Work with staff assigned to each community for a full understanding of each area and to support them in developing creative, effective marketing and retention strategies.
- Responsible for building relationships and motivating key leadership volunteers in their roles within Girl Scouting.
- Mediate and resolve all escalated conflicts from volunteers and parents.
- Analyze community demographics to ensure inclusion of under-represented groups and increase membership.
- Engage with community partners and participate in community activities to enhance visibility of Girl Scouting.
- Work closely with five other Area Membership Managers and Director of Membership to initiate solutions that will benefit the entire Membership staff to grow and retain members.
- Collaborate with fellow staff department heads to support needs of adult volunteer members in all Girl Scout activities.
- Use your strong employee management skills to direct work of a professional staff of eight.

- Skilled at collaborating with and motivating a team
- Experienced supervising professional staff and managing volunteers
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and to work under pressure and tight deadlines
- Great written and oral communication skills, including public presentations (primarily, in-person; occasionally, virtually)
- A confident, persuasive, decisive leader who is warm and sensitive to others
- Collaborative problem-solver
- Skilled with Microsoft Office, major social media platforms, and various video conferencing software; familiarity with Salesforce, a plus
- Ability to travel throughout the Greater Washington, DC area
- Ability to work evenings and weekends frequently
- Girl Scout experience, especially as an adult volunteer, very helpful (but not critical)
