Description
This position is responsible for the custodial care and maintenance of the Civic Center, Opera House, Roy Driggers Building, Utility Collections, and other assigned facilities. May assist setting up and tearing down large events to include chairs, tables and/or trade show booths.
Major Duties
- Installs traffic control devices in support of event traffic management.
- Returns facilities to normal status following events.
- Attends and provides staff support at assigned events.
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles; replaces liners.
- Cleans/disinfects and sanitizes restrooms; restocks restroom supplies.
- Cleans lobby steps, stairwells, and portico areas.
- Sweeps, mops, waxes, and vacuums floors.
- Stocks janitorial supply closet and orders supplies as needed.
- Dusts and polishes furniture, blinds, and windowsills.
- Cleans glass, mirrors, and windows.
- Sweeps and cleans sidewalks, parking lots, Arts walkway, and garden areas, picking up debris, trash, and disposing of same.
- Assists staff with raising and lowering flags.
- Replaces ceiling and floor tiles as needed.
- Repairs small holes in walls and arena floor; repaints as needed.
- Replaces lightbulbs.
- Maintains cleaning equipment and other tools.
- Inspects facilities and reports repair needs to appropriate personnel.
- Opens and secures facilities as directed.
- Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Arena Operations Manager assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The Arena Operations Manager spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include supervisory instructions and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related custodial and event preparation duties. The variety of duties to be performed contributes to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to assist with cleaning and setting up events and custodial duties within department facilities. Successful performance contributes to the provision of clean, safe, and attractive facilities and to the success of programs and events.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee regularly lifts objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds, occasionally lifts objects weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds with assistance, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
- The work is typically performed in city buildings. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, and irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, personal protection equipment, ponchos, haz-mat suits, etc.

Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from a standard senior-high school or GED equivalent, as recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) or Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), and
- Six (6) months recent work experience in related work (such as stagehand, truck loading, maintenance, construction, or related work).
- Six (6) months recent experience using hand tools and materials used for auditorium/arena maintenance and repair work preferred.
- Recent (within one (1) year) satisfactory experience with the Performing Arts department as an Occasional/Sporadic Worker performing work such as stagehand, truck loading, maintenance, construction, or related work preferred.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a valid operator driver’s license and an acceptable driving record (PBA 09/10/01).
- Employees may work irregular hours, evenings, holidays, overnights, and weekends.
- An applicant for this position is subject to various background investigations up to and including a criminal, credit, past employment, and reference checks.
- Employees are required submit to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with the City of Dothan policy, which includes pre-employment and random tests for the duration of employment in this position. (PBA 08/13/12)
- Must meet the City of Dothan’s employment physical standards, which include drug/alcohol testing.
- Must comply with department dress code, including closed-toe shoes with non-skid soles.
