Assistant AD of Media Relations & Strategic Communications

Summary of Job Duties:
The Assistant AD Strategic/External Communications is a twelve-month position and will be responsible for planning and organizing all phases of a Division I sports information department. Additionally, the incumbent will be the primary contact for men’s basketball. The incumbent will serve as a key person on the department’s senior staff, reporting directly to and working closely with the Director of Athletics. All duties and responsibilities are governed by state, federal, and university policy.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and organize all phases of Little Rock Sports information department including the supervision of the Associate Sports Information Director and Sports information interns;
  • Work with External Relations staff and the University Office of Communications staff to plan and execute marketing plans for all Trojan Athletic events;
  • Coordinate and implement social media strategies to promote Trojan Athletics;
  • Work to creatively tell the stories of teams, student-athletes, and coaches through various channels, and continuously evaluate and enhance content;
  • Act as liaison with all local and national media outlets;
  • Write and edit news releases, media guides, and game notes for designated sports;
  • Maintain statistics, records, and photo archives;
  • Develop and adhere to sports information department budget;
  • Assist in the execution of agreed upon contracts signed with LEARFIELD, involving but not limited to the official athletic website, social media accounts, game day programs, media guides and Coaches TV and Radio Shows;
  • Oversee the content and management of LRTrojans.com;
  • The applicant will also be responsible for helping to secure staff for home events, supervising temporary, part-time, and student employees along with the full-time media relations staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of NCAA, Ohio Valley Conference and University regulations;
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner and present a positive image of the University;
  • Experience with relevant software programs is preferred (TAS Software, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, etc.);
  • Ability to work numerous nights and weekends during the academic year;
  • Ability to travel with select teams.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism or a related field and a minimum of two years experience in sports information or athletic media relations.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Experience with relevant software programs is preferred (TAS Software, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, etc.;
  • Experience with social media management (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) is preferred.
