Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell seeks an experienced and highly motivated attorney to serve as the Assistant Attorney General handling asset forfeiture for the Criminal Bureau of the Attorney General’s Office.

The Criminal Bureau works to protect the public by investigating and prosecuting a wide range of criminal cases. These include public corruption; financial fraud and other violations of the public trust; organized crime; gaming violations; narcotics and firearms offenses; appellate issues; insurance and unemployment fraud; human trafficking, and more. The Criminal Bureau’s investigations are supported by a team of State Police detectives.

Primary Duties : The Assistant Attorney General will handle civil asset forfeiture matters and restitution hearings pursuant to Commonwealth v. Henry . Civil asset forfeiture matters arise primarily, but not exclusively, out of investigations and prosecutions from the Human Trafficking, Gaming Enforcement, and Enterprise, Major, & Cyber Crimes Divisions, while post-conviction restitution matters will stem from cases out of the White Collar & Public Integrity Division, and Insurance & Employment Fraud Division. The work involves collaboration with law enforcement, financial investigators, and other AAsG in the various divisions within the Criminal Bureau.

The AAG will be responsible for assisting law enforcement officers and other AAsG in the Criminal Bureau in determining whether assets are subject to forfeiture under the asset forfeiture laws; drafting and filing timely civil complaints seeking forfeiture of assets seized under the asset forfeiture laws; handling all phases of civil litigation of asset forfeiture cases; and assisting with final disposition of assets. The AAG will also be responsible for reviewing and evaluating all citizen complaints and correspondence that are sent to the Criminal Bureau.

Position Type : Full-Time/Exempt

Salary : $78,586 to $117,879 , commensurate with JD year and experience.

Qualifications:
Position Requirements : Member of the Massachusetts bar with at least four (4) years of experience as an attorney. This position is in the Boston office but will require statewide travel. A valid driver’s license is required. Prior experience in asset forfeiture and criminal investigations and prosecutions is preferred. Applicants should possess strong oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, have significant experience in Superior Court litigation, and demonstrate a commitment to public service. Must be self-motivated, disciplined, ethical, and possess the ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in decision-making. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve, including historically marginalized communities, and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment.
