Assistant, Communications

JOB TITLE: Assistant,Communications SUPERVISOR: Coordinator, Communications

DESCRIPTION: This position will include writing opportunities, statistical research, copyediting, and a variety of other assignments on game days. The selected candidate will work from the club’s front office on a part-time basis and is expected to be available for 15-20 hours per week in addition to all first team matches and select second team (MLS NEXT Pro) matches.

Primary duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist the Communications team in the creation of all weekly updates, game notes, and other media materials for Earthquakes, Earthquakes II (MLS NEXT Pro) and the Earthquakes Academy
  • Attend team training sessions periodically to interview players and coaches
  • Support department operations for Earthquakes II
  • Draft articles and provide statistical information for club’s website and social media channels
  • Sort and maintain the club’s photo archive
  • Game day duties as assigned, including press box set up, recording and transcribing postgame press conferences, and assisting with match recaps

Requirements:

  • Experience using Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite programs, including InDesign and Photoshop
  • Advanced writing skills with knowledge of AP Style
  • Strong communication skills and sharp attention to detail
  • Exceptional time management and ability to work under strict deadlines
  • Knowledge of soccer, the San Jose Earthquakes and MLS
  • Desire for a career in sports communications
  • Prior experience in the sports industry preferred, but not required
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus

Pay Rate: $19.00/hour
