The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is a Special Service District that has been serving area residents for over sixty years. As a Special Service District, GVRD operates as a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo. GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, and Olympic-size swimming pool and 4 community centers. GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land.
GVRD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. With 30 plus full time and approximately 155 part-time and seasonal employees, GVRD operates on a 2023-2024 fiscal year budget of $12.9 million for general fund operations and Measure K funding amounting to $2.2 million. The Measure K funding is being utilized to purchase necessary equipment, improve parks, facilities.

GENERAL SUMMARY
This position is responsible for assisting in planning and coordinating programs, registering participants, recruiting, training, and evaluating staff, and assisting in the preparation of promotional material and marketing special events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Develops, plans, directs, implements, and schedules various recreational and social activities, such as sports events, seasonal group activities, and special activities.
- Oversees the operations and staff of assigned area or program.
- Assists the Recreation Coordinator with purchases of equipment as necessary for recreational programs within purchasing policies and budget limitations.
- Maintains inventory of all program supplies and requesting and/or purchasing supplies as needed.
- Develops and distributes marketing materials for recreational program promotion, including solicitation of sponsorships.
- Coordinates facilities usage for programs with various partners.
- Assists in Developing a calendar of events for the community.
- Communicates with businesses, citizens and entities involved in parks, recreation, and events. Provides information and assistance.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers and paid staff.
- Assists with departmental budget preparation
- Performs related work as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees.

- Position has limited fiscal responsibility. May assist in the collection of data in support of recommendations for departmental budget allocations. May monitor division or program/promotional level budget and expenditures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
- Two (2) to three (3) years’ experience planning recreation programs and in customer service.
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Required Licenses or Certifications
- American Red Cross Life-guarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers,
First Aid, and Administering Emergency Oxygen - American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor
- Title 22: First Aid for Public Safety Personnel
Recommended Certifications
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
- Certified Pool Operator
- Aquatic Facility Operator
