Description
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, a six-time National Recreation and Parks Association Gold Medal Winner is seeking a Recreation/Enterprise Facility Manager I to assist in managing a facility within the Northern Recreation and Leisure Services Division. Under general supervision of the facility director, the successful candidates will be responsible for providing a wide variety of professional recreation work.

The selected candidates must be creative, customer service oriented and able to work well in a team environment.

Please note that the salary above represents earning potential. The budgeted salary range for this position is $50,595 – $70,100.00. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Examples of Important Duties

  • Plans, organizes and implements recreation activities, classes, programs, and special events for a specific facility in the northern area of Prince George’s County.
  • Markets programs for the facility. Prepares and distributes flyers, rack cards, ads, posters, and other marketing materials.
  • Overall supervision of the community center to ensure all programs and events are operating smoothly at the direction of the Facility Manager.
  • Supervises intermittent, volunteer, and contract employees. Recruits, interviews, selects, and trains staff. Evaluates and counsels employees.
  • Monitors and tracks expenditures for programs and projects.
  • Plans, schedules, and assigns work. Approves the timecards for the seasonal staff.
  • Monitors and tracks seasonal staff hours worked.
  • Attends training to familiarize self with M-NCPPC software, policies and procedures.
  • Performs on committee assignments.
  • Prepares check requests, purchase card requests, purchase requisitions, personnel action forms, mileage reimbursements, and other administrative reports.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree or four years experience in one of the following fields: parks, recreation, education, business administration, physical education, communication, leisure services, or in area of required specialty; and

2. Two years of responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, education, business administration, health education, physical education, communication, leisure services, or area of required specialty; or

3. An equivalent combination of education and experience;

4. A valid driver’s license or ability to acquire one; and

5. A valid operating license (e.g., county pool operator’s, child care license) as appropriate.

Working Conditions
Works in an assigned facility, which may operate seven days per week. Works extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Responds to emergency situations as required. Requires regular contact with the general public. Responds to citizens’ complaints. On-call 24 hours. Attends meetings and programs at various facilities.

Eligibility
You have 45 days from your hire date to elect your benefits. Your coverage begins on the first of the month following receipt of your enrollment forms and required documentation.

Retirement Programs

  • Defined Benefit Plan (Mandatory Participation) – Plan E excludes FOP members.

Plan C: 9%* of base salary (FOP members only) – *9.5% Effective 4/1/2023
Plan E: 4% of base salary up to maximum Social Security Wage Base (SSWB) and 8% in excess of SSWB.

Supplemental Long-Term Disability Insurance (Employee Pays 100%)

  • Benefits paid at 66 2/3% of base salary that exceeds $108,000; capped at $216,000

Basic Life and AD&D Insurance (Employee Pays 20%: Commission Pays 80%)

  • Two (2) times base salary; maximum benefit is $200,000 for each
  • Automatic coverage with opt-out provision

Supplemental and Spouse/Dependent Life Insurance (Employee Pays 100%)

  • Supplemental – 1,2,3,4, or 5 times base salary; maximum benefit is $750,000

Sick Leave Bank (Contribution and Benefit hours prorated for part-time employees)
