What you’ll do:
In partnership with the Director of Estate and Gift Planning, the Assistant Director will be an essential partner in our legacy giving program, including the following:
Estate Management
- Review estate and trust documents, including wills, trusts, beneficiary designations, inventories and accountings in process of managing paperwork process to secure realized estate gifts (bequests, IRAs, life insurance, etc.).
- Liaison with attorneys, trustees and financial institutions related to estate gifts.
- Process all estate gifts and maintain all database coding for opening, managing/tracking and closing estates.
Donor Engagement and Stewardship Activities
- Process all new Humane Heritage Circle members in donor database and provide concierge service to members seeking information and services; offer and host tours as appropriate.
- Conduct donor stewardship calls and respond to basic planned giving inquiries as appropriate. Produce donor correspondence at regular intervals for all bequest inquiries and bequests confirmed.
- Create 1-2 learning/engagement opportunities each year for Humane Heritage Circle members (e.g., financial planning, learning about charitable gift annuities, etc.).
- Manage regional luncheons (three per year) for existing Humane Heritage Circle members.
Marketing, Communications and Financial
- Manage annual calendar for planned giving marketing communications (email and social media advertising), including securing content from vendors, establishing email drop dates in coordination with communications team, routing content for editing/approvals and tracking to ensure deployment.
- Manage pre- and post-event communication and donor data collection for quarterly estate planning seminars.
- Coordinate all planned giving marketing communications, serving as liaison with marketing vendors, securing internal review and ensuring all communications are sent.
- Track annual planned giving budget and process expenses.
What we’re looking for:
- A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in the fundraising field, including experience navigating complex/detailed/multi-faceted projects, OR any equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Must have experience and significant strength in project and task management.
- Requires experience and enjoyment of interacting directly with organizational donors.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes.
The ideal candidate will have personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the SDHS mission – you’re a proactive, hands-on thinker with solid problem-solving skills and a passion for details, processes and organization.
Other relevant experience should include demonstrated ability to communicate directly with generous supporters and the ability to evaluate and prioritize workload and work independently with minimal supervision.
Location: Based at our San Diego Campus. This position has the ability for remote work up to three days of the week after initial training/onboarding period.
Pay: The starting range is between $70,000 – $83,000 per year. The actual starting salary is determined by your related education and experience. Sign-on bonus and negotiable relocation bonus available.
