Job Description

The University of Missouri’s Strategic Communications & Marketing division is seeking an energetic, loyal, and influential leader as an Assistant Director for Enrollment Communications.

The Assistant Director for Enrollment Communications is part of the Student Communications team and is responsible for leading marketing and communications work to support Enrollment Management and reach recruitment and retention goals.

We aim to produce the best and most efficient marketing and communications campaigns to support Enrollment Management, including university-wide recruitment, recruitment travel, prospective student campus visits, and transactional communications to current students. We specialize in the design and production of targeted print materials (publications, postcards, letters, event invitations, posters, envelopes). Our work also includes mailings, emails, digital content and text messages. Our team is highly efficient, collaborative, kind, and energetic. We are a team where all ideas warrant discussion, no viewpoint is discouraged, and everyone gets a seat at the table.

As the Assistant Director for Enrollment Communications, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with campus leadership and external partners on various initiatives, lead the daily work of the enrollment communications team to depict an accurate and meaningful representation of Mizzou life, and develop communication strategies that speak to a variety of audiences on multiple platforms. The Assistant Director will develop and implement key marketing strategies that focus on prospective and current student engagement, foster brand loyalty, drive enrollment, and enhance student recruitment and retention. This role will consistently achieve and promote departmental successes. In addition, the Assistant Director will ensure industry best practices and outcomes that support the goals, brand, image, and mission of the University across all media channels.

Additional Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate and develop effective working relationships with internal and external constituency groups to coordinate multi-channel campaigns across campus to support enrollment success
  • Monitor team performance for the Enrollment Management Communications team by developing, articulating, and leading the implementation of long and short-term goals to meet student recruitment and retention objectives as well as performing supervisory duties such as coaching, evaluating, and managing individual performance.

    • Identify strengths of each team member and incorporate tasks that utilize those strengths
    • Provide difficult feedback that shifts behavior and brings the team member to a successful outcome.
    • Encourage team members to continue learning, growing, evolving in their areas of responsibility and additional professional interest areas.
  • Collect data, peer assessments and research strategies to provide relevant reports for institutional decision making and communicate findings to various groups
  • Evaluate and assess communications and marketing trends and/or strategies through research, focus groups, and other methods to continually identify new opportunities with the University’s vision
  • Train other departments on how they can support university recruitment and retention collaboration

The ideal candidate who will be successful as the Assistant Director of Enrollment Communications will possess the below skillsets and traits:

  • Possess excellent written and oral communications, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Be detail oriented and recommend process improvements.
  • Analyze situations, problem solve, address issues, and make reasonable decisions.
  • Develop content ideas in multiple formats and quickly execute high-quality content in those areas.
  • Juggle a variety of projects, shifting priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have a high regard for customer service by responding to requests, explaining the details of campaign strategies, and assuaging client fears and concerns.
  • Reviewing creative content with [non-marketing] clients and explaining design decisions/rules/processes in simple, everyday terms.
  • When issues arise (such as missed executions, incorrect content, insensitive design), identifying what is necessary to communicate up to leadership and being able to articulate the issues in writing and in person.

Salary

Salary Range: $61,500-$66,000

Grade: GGS 011

University Title: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS

Shift

40 hours per week, 8 am to 5 pm, Monday-Friday

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of producing high-quality media content.
  • Master’s degree preferred (MBA, Marketing, Communications, Education)
  • Working knowledge of media platforms, Adobe Creative Suite, following projects in a project management system and previous experience with Wrike or Clickup desired
  • Experience with strategic communications and/or marketing campaign development
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft O365, including SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams
