Description
The Atlantic Council seeks a talented, dynamic individual for a temporary, full-time Assistant Director position at the Global Energy Center to support a US government funded research and educational program bolstering US clean technology trade with developing and emerging market partners. The contract position is for the duration of the project, estimated to be 10 -12 months. The Global Energy Center promotes energy security by working alongside government, industry, civil society, and public stakeholders to devise pragmatic solutions to the geopolitical, sustainability, and economic challenges of the changing global energy landscape.
The Assistant Director will provide important research and logistical support to an ambitious programming, research, and publications agenda. The Assistant Director will have the opportunity to collaborate with a range of public sector, development, and private sector partners in expanding US clean technology engagement with markets in Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial ethos and superb communication skills. The candidate should enjoy the complexity of helping to build a rapidly growing program. The candidate should have a background in energy and environmental studies, economics, public policy, international relations, area studies, or a related field. The position requires excellent administrative and communication skills, superb organization, superior writing ability, extraordinary attention to detail, and a proven aptitude to make sound judgments, assume responsibility, and work independently in a fast-paced Center with tight deadlines and competing priorities.

This position is located in Washington, DC on a hybrid schedule. Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers starting at $50,000.
Responsibilities
- Provide administrative, logistical, and communications support for the organization and execution of events and programming related to a comprehensive USG-funded program: liaise with the Office of Finance and Operations and other relevant programs at the Atlantic Council; coordinate travel arrangements as needed; draft agendas and speaker invitations; manage key outreach lists; and help to prepare briefing material for guests coming to Washington and for Global Energy Center trips abroad.
- Perform outreach to energy sector and climate stakeholders across a suite of developing and emerging market nations, coordinate with senior advisors and staff to organize and track the conduct of a program of interviews, educational roundtables, and a conference.
- Conduct and coordinate research efforts pertaining to key project deliverables, provide research support to senior advisors and staff members.
- Ensure project timelines are met and track progress against key stages of project performance. Submit reports to partner agency in compliance with mandatory reporting schedule.
- Collaborate with external subcontractors and serve as point of contact for partner organizations.
- Applicants must be able to work full-time (40 hrs./week) and be authorized to work in the United States. Availability to work in-person in our Washington, DC office and availability to travel internationally is required.
Qualifications
- At least a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in energy/environmental science, economics, public policy, international affairs, area studies, or a related field.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in a relevant field (including internships).
- Experience working with US-government funded projects and familiarity with USG compliance is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in international affairs and trade with a focus on energy, climate, sustainability, and/or economics.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Skilled in clear, persuasive, and effective communications with various stakeholders including excellent written skills, and some experience presenting to senior audiences.
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on multi-step, detail-oriented projects in a fluid environment.
