Job Description Summary
Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for an Assistant Director of IT Data Management.

The Assistant Director is responsible for (1) planning, designing, and implementing information systems, (2) managing, maintaining, and securing data systems, (3) supporting, and assisting staff in the database, imaging, programming, and form development systems, (4) evaluating and developing staff, (5) monitoring project statuses and reporting statuses to upper management. Performs encoding, testing, debugging, and installation activities as necessary. Works with organizational end users to clarify operating procedures, communicate program objectives, and develop project plans. Relies on established guidelines and instructions to perform daily job functions. Works under general supervision and usually reports to the Director of Information Technology Services-Application Services.

This position typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher plus five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in information technology and/or institutional research. However, HFC recognizes that there are alternative career paths where candidates may gain the expertise and ability to perform the essential duties. Education, experience, and training that demonstrates proficiency and the ability to perform the essential duties will be evaluated for equivalency to the education, competencies, and experience qualifications listed below.

Schedule: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday – Friday. (Possible opportunity to work hybrid or remotely 2-3 days a week.).
Core Competencies and Qualifications
Ensures a smooth and effective data management infrastructure encompassing data warehouses, data stores, database architecture and other related systems. Responsible for overseeing data systems and ensuring they meet organizational requirements. Relies on extensive knowledge and professional discretion to achieve goals. Significant ingenuity and flexibility is expected. Manages others.

Data Management – Knowledge of data management principles, procedures, and tools, such as modeling techniques, data backup, data recovery, data dictionaries, data warehousing, data mining, data archiving, and data standardization processes. Knowledge of the uses of database management systems and software to control the organization, storage, retrieval, security, and data integrity.

Data Systems – Knowledge of computer hardware and software development and systems as they apply to the conception, specification, analysis, planning, development, installation, test, modification, and use of data handling and computing systems.

Database Administration – Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for automating, developing, implementing, or administering database systems.

Problem Solving -Identifies and analyzes problems; weighs relevance and accuracy of information; generates and evaluates alternative solutions; makes recommendations.
Enterprise Architecture – Knowledge of principles, concepts, and methods of enterprise architecture to align information technology (IT) strategy, plans, and systems with the mission, goals, structure, and processes of the organization.

Applied Technical Skills

  • Microsoft applications and operating systems including Office, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2019
  • Expertise with MS SQL Server 2016, 2017, 2019 Database Systems
  • Installation of user workstation drivers and applications as needed.
  • Database and application development methodologies.
  • Expertise in programming technologies including the use of C#, PowerShell, T-SQL, HTML, JavaScript, and other programming languages.
  • Knowledge of and experience with large ERP databases.

We are most interested in candidates with skills that include:

  • Knowledge of document imaging systems, like Perceptive Content (ImageNow).
  • Electronic forms systems development experience.
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague Systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to use complex analytic judgment and ingenuity to plan and perform difficult work where only general methods may be available.
  • Demonstrated ability to create new processes and procedures where existing methods do not exist, particularly focused on analyzing new external mandates and internal priorities to develop accurate and efficient responses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide guidance, assistance, and support to staff.
  • Evaluates and provides feedback to staff on job performance.
  • Provides users with technical support for the College’s ERP systems.
  • Serves as primary support for the database systems, including security, maintenance, and performance.
  • Serves as secondary support for imaging and electronic forms systems.
  • Follows established procedures for process customizations and development, including documenting and obtaining user approval on modifications and/or process results.
  • Consults with users to identify and analyze computer support needs.
  • Develops and recommends specifications for new applications and proposed changes to existing applications on the administrative systems.
  • Assists Data Base/Research Analyst with writing of technical and user documentation as pertains to the administrative systems.
  • Maintains familiarity with new technology standards and how each may be applied to the future growth and development of the services provided by the Imaging and Electronic Forms systems.
  • Creates, maintains, and updates issue/solution documentation in the College’s issues documentation system.
  • Conducts training on accessing/utilizing computer resources and applications.
  • Participates in project design and project planning processes.
  • Develops technical solutions to needs in the College administrative systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
