Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Serves as Assistant Director of the Office of Learning and Instructional Strategies (OLIS):
- Supports the work of Future Forward facilitating and leading the work around high-quality instruction (e.g., plans, directs, creates and manages statewide support specific to Ohio’s Learning Standards and Model Curriculum, Academic Career Pathways, Accelerating Learning and strategic planning and vision setting, oversight of grants to support this work);
- Works with districts, schools, and local education associations in the supports of high-quality instruction;
- Creates professional learning/training programs to support high-quality instruction including Ohio’s Learning Standards, evidence based practices, and high-quality instructional materials;
- Collaborates with other ODE colleagues, local school district staff, local education agencies and higher education to promote and foster high-quality instruction for Ohio’s students;
- Reviews changing state and federal laws, best practices, educational data and research regarding high-quality instruction, learning standards and curriculum;
- Writes position papers and makes recommendations on the development of policies and rules related to curricular programs and initiatives;
- Supervises and leads internal staff in the efforts to support districts, teachers and stakeholders with high-quality instruction;
- Supports and serves as curriculum contact in cross-office initiatives;
- Secures and oversees grants to support work specific to curriculum implementation (e.g., plans, develops and implements internal office policies and procedures as it pertains to grants; facilitates and conducts effective project planning (e.g., monitoring, budget, finance, reports, request for application).
Performs other duties (e.g., attends national, state and regional conferences; represents agency in professional associations; creates reports and strategic position papers).
- Writes position papers and makes recommendations on the development of policies and rules related to curricular programs and initiatives;
- Represents the Department at national, state and regional conferences;
- Stays current in regard to research and national trends specific to high-quality instruction and accelerated learning to support student learning;
- Initiates and models active and collaborative leadership across departments/programs;
- Successfully manages multiple projects and initiatives;
- Delivers strong customer service to stakeholders including outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree (e.g., education or related field) and one of the following:
- 5 years applied experience in implementation and delivery of curriculum and instruction;
- OR 5 years experience as an educational leader supporting districts, schools and/or educators with professional learning specific to curriculum and instructional strategies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing and implementing policy
- Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex roles and responsibilities
- Systems thinker with creativity and strong problem-solving skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills related to educational policy, resource allocation, and program design
- Exceptional verbal/written communication and presentation skills and a proven ability to build productive relationships with, and communicate complex messages to, a wide variety of stakeholders
- A strong understanding of Ohio’s educational policy and landscape
- Unwavering belief that all students can learn and achieve success in school
