Job Description

Coordinate and oversee Placement Testing Program

  • Collaborate with the Director to establish, implement, and assess comprehensive testing accommodation supports, processes, procedures, and policies.
  • Ensure testing procedures comply with ADA approved accommodations.
  • Maintain test integrity standards for campus faculty and community.
  • Respond to faculty and staff inquiries and concerns regarding accommodated assessments.
  • Support students in requesting accommodations for national, local, and field assessments requiring special consideration for set up and implementation of accommodations (i.e., ACCUPLACER, TEAS, etc.)
  • Understand, evaluate, demonstrate, and implement assistive technology used in testing.
  • Coordinate with faculty from the Nursing department to offer TEAS Nursing Entrance examination testing.
  • Hire, train, and supervise student employees to assist in proctoring tests.

Assess, plan, facilitate, and evaluate accommodations and support services students who self-identify with a disability/condition

  • Stay abreast of legislation and national, state, and local issues related to ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act as related to population served.
  • Provides information and consultation regarding the accommodation process to current and perspective students and their support networks.
  • Conduct individual meetings with students to determine, arrange, and update reasonable accommodations as determined by the interactive process.
  • Evaluate and interpret disability related documentation and evaluations provided to support requests for accommodations.
  • Provide culturally relevant and appropriate services and accommodations.
  • Support and empower students’ continued development of disability identity, self-advocacy, knowledge of disability rights, and personal understanding of impacts of their condition(s) in relation to environmental barriers.
  • Engage thoughtfully and respectfully to mediate individual or group conflicts to achieve satisfactory resolutions, in accordance with established processes and policies.
  • Make recommendations to Director of academic accommodations and costs where appropriate.
  • Consult and collaborate with faculty and/or staff to determine reasonable accommodations.

Coordinate Multiple Measure Course Placement Program

  • Serve on the Developmental Education Strategic Roadmap (DESR) statewide committee to maintain standards for the institution.
  • Implement all updates of the Accuplacer Testing program.
  • Coordinate and communicate with relevant faculty and departments (i.e., math, English, Academic Success Center, Registrar, etc.) regarding updates and changes with testing procedures and policies.
  • Attend Minnesota State University System update sessions and stay abreast of state legislation relating to remedial courses and placement testing issues.

Program Management

  • Assist the department in development and implementation of programs and procedures for the delivery of services as well as ongoing assessment of the program. Outreach and consultation with faculty, staff, and departments within the university community will be ongoing.
  • Develop and recommends program goals, objectives, policies and procedures regarding program access and universal design for students with disabilities.
  • Collect, analyze, and assess departmental data for continuous improvement.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of department policies and procedures.
  • Assist Director with faculty and staff training, and day-to-day operations of the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Disability Studies or related field and (1) year of professional experience or Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of experience in a student support service area in higher education or an equivalent combination of post-secondary training, education, and/or professional experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering equity in a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Experience interpreting and applying Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other appropriate laws pertaining to higher education and disability.
  • Experience working with and advocating for people with disabilities.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to build and sustain relationships with governing agencies, students, and colleagues/professionals at all levels of the community.
  • Skills, both written and verbal, sufficient for effective communications, organization, and prioritization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and familiarity with higher education systems and best practices in disability services
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating a testing center program, including scheduling and proctoring examinations.
  • Functional knowledge of assistive technology tools

MSUM enrolls 4,679 students from 35 states and 42 countries. MSUM is a member of the Tri-College University, an educational consortium that includes Concordia College of Moorhead, North Dakota State University, Minnesota State Community and Technical College, and the North Dakota State College of Science.
