General Statement:

The Assistant Director of Accounting reports to the Director of Accounting and assumes duties in the event of an absence. This position will be responsible for overseeing grant transactions as well as various reconciliation and financial calculations to maintain the college’s financial records. GAAP, GASB, and other regulations must be followed.

Examples of Work Performed:

  1. Coordinate and process grant activity including, but not limited to:
    1. Create, monitor, and adjust all grant budget activity, including employee wages and benefits for grant funded positions
    2. Maintain grant financial data
    3. Invoice for all budget activity in a timely manner in accordance with the provisions of the various grants
    4. Report on grant activities as needed
    5. Coordinate annual grant meetings with various grant managers
    6. Prepare annual restricted college budget
    7. Assist in the grant application process as needed
    8. Review and reconcile Effort Reporting
    9. Explore, develop and implement technology advances in available software
    10. Prepare monthly fiscal reports to the Board of Trustees and outside agencies as assigned
  2. Responsible for general accounting tasks and supervising and reviewing the work of the staff relating to maintaining of the accounting records for General Ledger accounts and related subsidiary ledgers for operating fund, federal funds, grants, and financial aid as well as related reporting requirements for each on a current basis.
  3. Assist the Director of Accounting in developing and initiating systems, forms, and procedures necessary to ensure a satisfactory operation of the accounting office, including the implementation of computer techniques and programs wherever feasible.
  4. Prepare Indirect Cost allocation plan as needed
  5. Reconcile financial aid grants, direct lending, and other accounts as assigned
  6. Assist in year-end process and annual audit
  7. Work collaboratively with various College departments and outside agencies
  8. Banking functions as assigned
  9. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field OR
  • Associates Degree in Accounting or related field and 2 years’ relevant experience in handling financial transactions OR
  • High School Diploma and 10 years’ relative experience in handling financial transactions.
  • Must enjoy working in fast-paced environment and display an aptitude for technology. Must be able to work independently on multiple tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field; Knowledge of GAAP; experience in Higher Ed or other educational setting, experience with Banner; supervisory experience.
