We’re currently seeking an Assistant Director of Communications and Marketing to join our Student Affairs’ Health and Well-being teams in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. Here’s what you need to know about the role:
• You’ll be serving as the strategic communications and marketing lead for our Well-being teams, which include Cook Counseling Center, Hokie Wellness, Residential Well-being, and Schiffert Health Center. You will also serve as a Student Affairs Communications Leadership Council leader.
• You’ll be reporting directly to the Senior Director of Hokie Wellness, the Assistant Director of Communications and working cross-collaboratively with the Directors of the Cook Counseling Center, Residential Well-being, and the Schiffert Health Center as well as the Director of Communications for Student Affairs.
• You’ll be providing leadership and working collaboratively on all marketing and communications for our health and well-being areas – oversight includes social media, website design, data analysis and visualization, photography and videography, graphic design, press releases, and a wide range of other strategic-level marketing and communications efforts.
• You’ll be hiring, training, and supervising a professional and student employee communications and marketing team to maintain project schedules and ensure a high quality of work and timely delivery of services.
• You’ll be maintaining and developing joint partnerships within the Division of Student Affairs and will be serving on committees and working on teams as needed or desired.
• You’ll be offered a base compensation package between $55,000 -$65,000 along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!
Required Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, print journalism, media relations, or a related discipline.
• Experience developing a strategic marketing plan for a diverse and comprehensive department.
• Extensive experience with social media platforms, social media marketing, and management of multiple social media accounts; staying current in social media trends and using social media tools to engage and promote the Dean of Students Office programmatic initiatives.
• Demonstrated excellence in communication and customer service skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators.
• Strong time management and organizational skills, working independently with little supervision and as part of a team on multiple tasks and projects; including the ability to prioritize projects and tasks based on workflow and current deadlines.
• Exemplary writing and editing skills, with an understanding of the special requirements of writing for the web, such as the use of keywords/SEO, hyperlinks, navigation, and the importance of brevity.
• Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience in publication activities such as writing, editing, designing, and preparing materials for special events, calendars, brochures, fliers, and press releases.
• Ability to network effectively to establish relationships and partnerships that benefit all programmatic efforts and advance initiatives as well as divisional aspirations and priorities.
• A strong commitment to promoting inclusion and diversity as aligned within the student affairs division and the university.
• Prior experience supervising staff or student workers.
Preferred Qualifications• Experience with health communications and social marketing in a university environment or work experience in health education, public health, or well-being environment.
• Demonstrated skills in photography/videography and/or illustration strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current media trends, printing processes, and techniques.
• Demonstrated knowledge of website, design, and video editing software and equipment.
• Knowledge using project management software like Wrike or social media content system like Falcon.
