Position Summary
This position may be eligible for hybrid and/or remote work schedule. Employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media is seeking the Assistant Director of Development to be a part of a successful and dynamic development and alumni engagement team.
This position is responsible for administrative support of the Associate Dean including development meeting scheduling, donor visit planning and donor communication. This position manages implementation of the annual campaign, including working with vendors, coordinating with the University Development Office ( UDO ) to ensure deadlines are met, preparing reports, and implementing GIVEUNC . He/she is responsible for Foundation Board and Board of Advisors management, including meeting planning and execution, communications, member bios and member lists. He/She will work with the Associate Dean and Development Director to coordinate and schedule major gift planning and implement major gift strategy. He/She will coordinate and update the department workplan and send reminders. He/she schedules weekly team meetings and prepares the agenda and office calendar. He/she assists the associate dean with donor briefings, research and document/report gathering for proposals. He/She prepares donor queries as needed and supports event planning, especially for the annual Hall of Fame. He/She communicates regularly with donors on behalf of the associate dean. The Assistant Director is expected to work autonomously and use independent thought when carrying out these responsibilities.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially creating reports in Excel. Proficiency in Adobe Suite. Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills. The ability to speak clearly and concisely and to convey information in a professional and courteous manner when speaking with donors, alumni, members or the University community and friends of the School.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Two to five years administrative experience in development is preferred. Blackbaud CRM database or other database management experience is preferred; Knowledge of Word Press is preferred.
