The Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver is an interdisciplinary professional school of international studies and public policy that prepares students for careers in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Our program provides students with the knowledge, skills and networks to design policies, implement programs, and realize outcomes that enhance human capabilities around the world. We offer graduate degrees in International Development; International Human Rights; International Studies; International Security; Global Economic Affairs; Global Environmental Sustainability; and Public Policy as well as several certificate programs. The School’s Office of Career and Professional Development provides services to all Korbel graduate students and alumni of the M.A., M.P.P. and Ph.D. programs and the International and Intercultural Communication Program. The fast-paced office, with 4 professional staff and 7-10 student employees, plays a critical role for students in the professional degree programs.
Position Summary
This position builds and maintains relationships with employers of interest to Korbel graduate students for post-graduate careers. This is done by strategically identifying organizations/companies/government agencies, seeking and meeting with alumni and recruiter contacts, offering employers recruiting opportunities and hosting events. Additionally, this position will advise students 1:1 and present on job searching and other career relevant topics to groups of students. This position works with a variety of stakeholders internally (i.e. Alumni, Admissions, Student Affairs, Office of Internationalization, Risk Management, and other DU Career Services staff) and externally (alumni, recruiters, vendors related to event planning). This position analyzes employment data to strategize on employer outreach, creates reports and presents outcomes and other relevant findings to a variety of stakeholders.
This position will demonstrate advocacy of inclusive excellence values in student professional development and employer relationship management. The position reports to the Director of the Korbel Office of Career & Professional Development and provides assistance and back up to Director for all functions of the office.
Essential Functions
- Works with the Director to develop and execute the employer development strategy.
- Represents the Josef Korbel School locally, nationally and internationally during employer site visits and telephone/email contacts and partners with Advancement and Alumni Relations staff on identifying contacts and conducting outreach.
- Ensures all appropriate follow up is conducted including posting opportunities, planning recruitment events, etc. Ensures all appropriate communication and follow up is provided to employers and all event details are completed.
- Maintains contact management database.
- Manages and coordinates large employer/alumni events including Networking Forums, Career Connections program in Washington, DC as well as employer information sessions and on-campus-interviewing.
- Serves as the Office point person on campus-wide employer development committee(s).
- Develops and manages budgets and operational forecasts for programs such as the annual DC Career Connections program, and other alumni/employer events. Works with the university risk management office and Shared Services to ensure compliance with DU policies.
- Assists in collecting and compiling post-graduation employment data for internal and external reporting.
- Deliver 1:1 career advising in-person and virtually including resume/CV/cover letter reviews, internship/job search strategy, informational interviews & networking guidance, career exploration, interview practice and coaching, and salary/offer negotiation assistance.
- Design and deliver workshops and other presentations on job search and other career-relevant topics.
- Practice a market-based approach to advising students on their career planning. Apply an understanding of what the Korbel degree and certificate programs prepare Korbel graduate students to do.
- Accurately track student interactions and engagements in the career services CMS.
- Utilize engagement data to develop reports for School leadership, strategize and execute strategies for engaging students in career services.
- Train and supervise student employee(s) assisting with employer development
- Contribute to student resources site KorbelCareers.du.edu (ex: blog articles highlighting specific employers, industries, fields)
- Serve on University committees and liaise with other Korbel and DU units.
- Participate in trainings and professional development and participate in professional associations such as APSIA and NACE
- Participate in staff meetings
- Provide assistance and back up to Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of international affairs job market locally, nationally, and internationally, and knowledge of the specific application processes for multilateral and government agencies. Ability to identify and analyze employment trends in the international affairs market.
- Ability to develop a vision and set and accomplish strategic goals using strong analytical skills, including the ability to distill large quantities of data and key information from a variety of sources to make sound recommendations and decisions.
- Management experience – staff, budget, programs
- Strong service orientation, excellent interpersonal and advising skills, and sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated excellence in interacting effectively with co-workers and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, design, and follow through on the implementation of tasks, projects, and programs that are related to this position.

- Must be able to work evenings and weekends and travel nationally and internationally.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 3+ years relevant professional experience
- Experience in employer relations, business development or sales
- Experience advising students
Preferred Qualifications
- M.A. Higher Education or International Affairs
- Experience working or living abroad
- Experience working in one of the following settings (ideally both): (1) international affairs focused organization (2) a career services office within a college or university.
- Professional network in international affairs.
- Experience teaching or training
- Experience with Career Services Management Systems such as 12Twenty.
- Experience within APSIA.
- Experience with MBTI, Strengths or other self-assessment tools is helpful

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 9.
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $55,000 – $62,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting.
