Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Events leads the strategic planning, management, and execution of events sponsored by faculty, staff, and students at the Sturm College of Law, and at times off campus, and assists with special events at the Sturm College of Law sponsored by external parties. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Business and Operations and works closely with other professionals at the unit and campus levels in the areas of advancement, communications, and event planning.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and implement convenings that promote programmatic areas of excellence designed to showcase scholastic achievements, inspire philanthropy, and engage the legal community, alumni, donors, and prospective students.
- Support faculty, staff, and student organizations to host events for internal and external constituents in the legal community.
- Strategic planning and budget development to design convenings that meet programmatic objectives and financial goals
- Execution of event design, including day of support
- Financial management, including vendor payments, internal budget transfers, invoices, and expense reconciliation.
- Manage all aspects of law school events, both on site and off site, including: relationship management with event hosts, vendors, internal stakeholders, outside groups; event design; physical setup; food and beverage selections; audio visual and technology requirements; other logistical aspects.
- Collaborate with other departments in the Law School to produce events, particularly Communications, Media Services, and Advancement.
- Liaison with other University Departments as related to event planning, including Sodexo Catering, Parking Services, Custodial Services, and Facilities Management, to ensure a seamless and cohesive experience for all law school sponsored events.
- Arrange all aspects of faculty candidate visits per internal process, including travel, hotel, ground transportation, dietary needs, and meeting schedules.
- Manage December and May graduation ceremonies, in collaboration with Student Affairs, to provide a memorable experience for graduates and their families and welcome students into the DU alumni family.
- Serve as law school representative on University committees pertaining to events and campus space use.
Required Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited four-year university or college or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Five years of event management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education.
- Expereince in large, multi-departmental organizations.

Work Schedule
Normal hours are typically Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. Some evening and occasional weekend hours are required.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is 9.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
