JOB GOAL
Under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources, the Assistant Director will lead and support the Human Resources department’s initiatives and work.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s degree in business, human resources, labor relations or a related field preferred
- Appropriate relevant experience may be substituted for the Master’s Degree.
Specialized Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice as they relate to staff and community engagement and cultivation
- High level of knowledge and comfort with technology and the ability to identify technology that will make the work of the Human Resources office more efficient for department staff and the employees that we serve.
- Skill with Google Workplace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.) and PowerSchool/TalentEd suite (Applicant Tracking and Records) preferred, but will train the right candidate
- Ability to master current systems and software including the Town’s financial and accounting system (MUNIS)
- Knowledge of applicable federal/state law and local/school policies as they apply to human resource functions
- Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish and Portuguese, are highly desirable

Experience:
- Experience in a public school Human Resource office highly desired
- Experience in human resources and/or related fields
- Experience collaborating with and supporting colleagues
- Experience with the above-mentioned technology platforms preferred
- Experience in the effective use of social media preferred
- Demonstrated aptitude for work to be performed
Alternative degrees/experience may be substituted for the above at the discretion of the Superintendent, if such a substitution brings a strong candidate forward.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (not limited to)

- Develop and maintain employee handbook
- Develop and maintain job description database
- Prepare information and data for collective bargaining with all units
- Review and approve all requests for tuition reimbursement and lane changes
- Conduct preliminary review and determine suitability of CORI and SAFIS
- Assist with senior administrative searches
- Maintain job fair calendar and register NPS recruiters
- Oversee the supervision and evaluation program for all non-licensed staff
- Maintain job fair calendar and register NPS recruiters
- Assist with exit interviews for staff exiting the system
- Oversee FMLA process for all employees, ensuring the payroll office has up-to-date, accurate information.
- Liaison to the NPS Business Office to support an accurate, effective payroll function.
- Liaison to the Town for Unemployment and Workers Compensation
- Complete all other assignments as requested by the Director of Human Resources, Superintendent or Deputy Superintendent.
- Oversee Frontline & TalentED
- Process online employment forms, write and send appointment letters for all professional, support and substitute employees, maintain complete & accurate records pertaining to employment status and compensation in TalentEd and MUNIS.
- Process EAN tuition reimbursement documents
- Manage job postings in TalentEd, the Insider, Handshake, and other websites as requested.
- Maintain lane change information for budget (fall) and for confirmation by Assistant Superintendent of TLI (spring).
- Oversee substitute coordinator who schedules substitute interviews and conducts reference checks on substitutes, help prepare substitute employment handbook and packets, and maintain updated substitute employee lists.
- Occasional night work required
