General Description / Primary Purpose
The Assistant Director of Marketing, under the direction of an Associate Director or above, plays an integral role in the design, development, implementation and interpretation of departmental processes and/or programs.

Essential Duties

Job Function
The primary role of the Assistant Director of Marketing is developing content for University marketing efforts and internal and external communications. The Assistant Director will:

  • Research, write and edit content for University print and online publications including the UNF Newsroom, marketing materials, brochures, annual reports, special events newsletters and collateral, internal and external electronic newsletters such as the faculty and staff e-newsletter, print and online ads, Osprey Journal alumni magazine, webpages and more.
  • Interview students, faculty, staff, alumni, and donors and write compelling stories for a variety of platforms. The Assistant Director must have a strong understanding of the power of storytelling and a demonstrated ability to write inspiring stories.
  • Assist in marketing research; support the assistant vice president in content production and development of University marketing campaigns.
  • Assist with University marketing approval reviews for printed and promotional materials.
  • Draft speaking points, presentations, correspondence and other projects as needed.
  • Requires a variety of skills including the ability to work with both external and internal constituencies.
  • In the event of an emergency, this position plays a critical role in crisis communication. In the FEMA Incident Command System, this position may be called upon to craft or refine internal and external messages and distribute the information a wide variety of ways (including e-mails, emergency message systems, text messages, etc.) to students, faculty, staff, visitors, the media and key stakeholders such as board members, alumni, community members and others.

Required Qualifications
A Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization and two years of experience directly related to the job functions; or a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a directly related area of specialization and four years of experience directly related to the job functions.

The Assistant Director:

  • Must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Also requires excellent organizational and management skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office: Microsoft Word, Excel and have the ability to learn other specialized software packages as necessary.
  • Have a working knowledge of graphic design concepts and photography.
  • Have knowledge and experience working with Content Management Systems; may have to update and create webpages through the University’s CMS.
  • Be able to work on a Mac platform.
  • May be expected to attend athletic, cultural and University/community events.
  • Requires excellent organizational and management skills.

Preference will be given to individuals who have demonstrated storytelling abilities, effective verbal and written communication skills, experience working directly with publication schedules, and who exhibit an extensive portfolio of work. Preferred background includes experience with Adobe Creative Suites and web technologies.
