Assistant Director, Visual Media

MCD is seeking an Assistant Director, Visual Media to play a vital role in producing innovative video content and web-based assets in support of institutional goals. You will bring creativity and expertise in photography, design, animation, and video editing. You must be someone who is energized by working with a highly collaborative Development Communications team where everyone’s input is valued. Experience working with contractors and delegating work across multiple media deliverables is essential. You will have flexibility to determine the best course of action for a given project while being challenged to produce and deliver a variety of quality creative materials, on time and on budget. In this role, you will report to and be a thought partner for the Director of Development Communications.

Beyond photography, videography, and motion graphics, you should have an interest in and affinity for effective storytelling. A successful candidate will bring a combination of creative communication skills and technical knowledge to enhance the team, our processes, and output.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and manage complex creative projects involving abstract or scientific content in a way that is approachable for a lay audience.
  • Play an active role in directing and advising faculty and program staff to produce highly creative work within time and cost constraints.
  • Take an active interest in understanding technical content and finding creative ways to convey that understanding to a broader audience.
  • Collaborate with video producers, editors, project managers, platform administrators, and graphic designers.
  • Provide creative vision, direction and design for complex projects. Determine overall themes and narrative for multifaceted projects as well as individual design concepts, sometimes with quick turnarounds.
  • Coordinate and execute on production process – develop and select appropriate production media and materials and create project plans.
  • Design across a variety of platforms using required software applications and in-depth knowledge of principles and practices of visual communications.
  • Partner with and influence clients and key contacts outside their own area of expertise.
  • Serve as project leader and/or provide guidance to other internal and contracted designers and production professionals, including on-site at events and photo/filming sessions.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry standards, trends and state-of-the-art technology to provide and enhance services.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree and seven years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, highly creative projects or content requiring extensive subject matter/client knowledge.
  • Ability to present portfolio or work examples that reflect creative work and project leadership.
  • Expertise with Adobe suite of products, including Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects and Illustrator.
  • Facility with MS Office suite of products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively resolve complex problems.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities, deadlines, and customer needs.
  • Strong project and budget management skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform detailed work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of industry standards, trends, and technical knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with others as part of a team.

The expected pay range for this position is $106,000 to $133,000 per annum.
