The Opportunity
Delaware North Global Headquarters is hiring an Assistant General Counsel to join our legal team in Buffalo, New York. As Assistant General Counsel, you will be responsible for providing advice and counsel to senior management and business-oriented legal advice to internal clients in all matters relevant to Delaware North’s Gaming subsidiary, and potentially others as needed. This role plays a key part in the strategic growth of the business, allowing you to use your legal expertise and other skills to perform sophisticated and challenging work in a family-friendly company.
This role is situated out of our Global Headquarters in Buffalo, NY. We welcome candidates outside of the Buffalo area who are open to relocating, and relocation assistance will be provided.
Minimum – Anticipated Maximum Salary: $158100 – $221200 / year

Responsibilities
- Provide advice and support to internal clients, primarily Gaming & Entertainment, and the Law Department on commercial contracts, state and federal Gaming compliance, and mergers and acquisitions.
- Work collaboratively with the Deputy General Counsel, General Counsel, and senior leaders of the business to provide superior business-oriented legal advice to drive desired business outcomes.
- Work collaboratively and provide legal counsel across a variety of business units or projects to effectively serve the enterprise and manage the volume of work.
Review and provide advice on all legal matters, including large-scale contracts, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and other commercial transactions and client-related matters. - Manage and resolve legal issues about transactional, commercial, corporate, and regulatory matters in a manner consistent with the company’s business decisions and strategy.
- Protect the company by establishing and recommending risk and compliance standards and expectations while creating and supporting opportunities and paths to allow the company to fully execute the strategy.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree.
- Admission to the bar, preferably in New York State.
- 10+ years’ experience in and knowledge of the practice of corporate and business law in a large law firm or a corporate law department.
- Prior experience in Gaming or other regulated industries is preferred.
- Ability to identify critical business issues, negotiate major contracts, structure collaborative business enterprises, and lead teams of internal executives and external professionals.
- Excellent writing and communications skills, the ability to negotiate and persuade, and a sound understanding of corporate and commercial law and general business practices.
