Why does the job exist?
The position exists to assist with the management of production and distribution of cold water fish species at Lisboa Springs Hatchery for stocking in waters throughout the state. The position is paid to produce rainbow trout and other cold water species and to assist with the management of the Lisboa Springs facility and personnel.
How does it get done?
Visual evaluation of daily production inventories to assess fish health and to determine daily task change recommendations. Coordination and scheduling of fish stockings. In the absence of the manager, ensuring all tasks relative to production and distribution are completed. Assisting with the development and implementation of an annual fish production plan. Evaluation of daily production inventories to assess fish health. Communicating with the manager to ensure all tasks relative to fish production are completed. Participating in daily fish propagation activities. Communicating with the manager to ensure all priority tasks are completed with the most efficient use of manpower available. Provide recommendations to the manager where applicable.

The position is for the public by providing a food supply and a recreational fishery.
Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidate will have experience or education in animal health, fisheries science, fish culture, wildlife science, natural science, biology, agriculture, animal husbandry, carpentry, auto mechanics, plumbing, welding and working with complex water delivery systems.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, Aquaculture, Animal Science or Wildlife Science, or other closely related field and one (1) year in farm or ranch related experience including basic construction, electrical, and plumbing skills, heavy and farm equipment operation/maintenance, fisheries and/or wildlife habitat management. Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Requires acquisition of a Commercials Drivers License Class B and a Water Operators Certification Level 1.
Working Conditions
Lift up to 80 pounds to waist height, bend, climb 2,000 feet in elevation, navigate in inclement weather. Operate agricultural and heavy equipment including 20 various attachments, transport trucks, ATVs, UTVs, and a Department vehicle. Use hand tools, power tools, welders, cutting torches, plasma clutters, tire machines and pressure washers. Use computers with the latest Microsoft windows software. Work beyond normal work day hours, including overnight camping. Extended travel across New Mexico may be required during certain times of the year.
