Position Description
The Assistant Metropolitan Attorney 3 is a Non-Civil Service Full Time announcement for the Department of Law. This position performs legal work for the Metropolitan Government and provides counsel to Metropolitan departments, boards, and commissions.

Typical Duties
- Represents the Metropolitan Government and its employees in hearings and trials.
- Files required briefs, pleadings, and other documents.
- Makes oral and written arguments.
- Examines and cross-examines witnesses; Interviews clients and witnesses.
- Gathers and reviews evidence.
- Reviews proposed administrative actions for legality.
- Attends meetings concerning legal matters.
- Prepares and reviews contracts and other legal documents.
- Prepares or directs preparation of ordinances, resolutions, or reports.
- Studies and interprets laws, court decisions, ordinances, and other legal authorities to provide legal advice.
- Assist in determining departmental policy.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctor of Jurisprudence and three (3) years of professional legal experience.
LICENSES REQUIRED:
License to practice law in the State of Tennessee or permitted to practice law pursuant to applicable rules of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
