JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Assistant Principal – High School – 10 mos.- 2023-2024
Location: Normal Community High School
Department: School Administration
Reports to: Building Principal
FLSA Class: Exempt
FTE: 1.0
SUMMARY
Assist the Building Principal in providing the leadership necessary to assure an educational environment which is safe, attractive, pleasant, and a productive place in which to work and learn. Support the certified staff as they seek to meet the needs of each student.
DUTIES
- Work with Student Services team(s) including Administrative Team, Counselors, Social Workers, Psychologist(s), Interventionists, Teaching Assistants, and General Education Teaching staff to align and coordinate services to student needs
- Oversee evaluation process for Initial 504 plan requests and re-evaluation process for some existing 504 plans
- Collaborate with Administrative Team related to student supports, discipline, communication with families and staff, data collection, analysis and reporting
- Collaborate with Building Chair(s) and General/Special Education staff to support student needs for success in the classroom.
- Serve as LEA for designated special education meetings and serve as a support to special education case managers in specific programs
- Supervise and evaluate assigned certified and non-certified staff members. Recruit, select and orient all new personnel.
- Enforce student handbook and assign consequences for handbook infractions.
- Assist the Principal with professional development.
- Prepare reports for District or other personnel as needed.
- Supervise and recommend scheduling of all teaching assistants based on student needs in coordination with the Associate Principal.
- Supervise extracurricular events as assigned by the building Principal.
- Supervise lunchroom as assigned.
- Work with School Resource Officer on criminal investigations involving students and supervise DCFS interviews involving students.
- Perform other such duties and assume other such responsibilities as the Principal assigns.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a valid administrator professional educator license, Master’s degree in school administration.
- Minimum of four years teaching and/or school administrative experience.
- Experience working with Special Education programs, IEPs, FBAs, BIPs, MDRs, 504 plans, and MTSS teams and systems of support preferred.
- Ability to manage others, communicate and work well with parents, students, teachers, staff and other school and District administrators is essential.
- Strong organizational, time management and conflict resolution skills are necessary.
Compensation:
The salary range for the position is $71,332 to $94,006 annually.
