Assistant Principal, View Ridge Middle School

The assistant principal is responsible for assisting the principal with the development and continuous improvement of a quality instructional program and productive learning environment within their building. Using leadership, communication, and management skills, the principal and assistant principal will work collaboratively with staff, parents, and students to promote quality education for all students.

DUTIES: May include, but are not limited to:

Instructional Leadership

  • Oversee the development and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment programs that ensure compliance with Board priorities, District educational goals, and State standards.
  • Ensure the ongoing evaluation and improvement of the District’s instructional programs by directing the systematic review of curriculum and instruction offerings and recommending revisions as appropriate.
  • Provide leadership for exemplary performance of school-based administrators and instructional staff through a comprehensive staff development program.
  • Ensure use of technology as an essential learning tool in the classroom and overall instructional program.
  • Model and support effective instructional strategies.
  • Provide a safe school environment for all members of the school community.

School Management

  • Oversee the general management of day-to-day operational functions of the middle school.
  • Provide leadership in maintaining student discipline and attendance.
  • Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance.
  • Coordinate staff development.
  • Be active in both school and district curriculum committees.
  • Ensure the implementation of District-wide goals, priorities, policies, and procedures by coordinating assigned activities with other departments.
  • Oversee monthly safety drills.
  • Assist in the coordination of state testing.
  • Oversee student and staff recognition program.
  • Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment.
  • Oversee Associated Student Body.

Supervision and Evaluation

  • Supervise and evaluate building certificated staff.
  • Supervise and evaluate building classified staff.
  • Supervise and manage assigned departments and programs within the school.
  • Supervise events for athletics, activities, and clubs.

Communication

  • Ensure effective two-way communication between the building administrative team and staff.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the District Administrative Team, Students, Parents, and Community.
  • Notify appropriate authority immediately in the event of any incident occurring on school premises.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Required to travel within region and state.
  • Required to work flexible hours and schedules.
  • Consistent, reliable attendance according to established work schedule is required.
  • Position may require prolonged sitting or standing with occasional stooping, bending and reaching.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Utilize collaboration as an instructional tool.
  • Monitor student achievement and teacher instruction.
  • Knowledge of student behavior and discipline intervention strategies.
  • Knowledge of coordination of ASB leadership, practices and law.
  • Knowledge of Athletic/Student activities management.
  • Knowledge of Specialized programs (i.e. 504, Special Education).
  • Knowledge of state and local assessment practices.
  • Knowledge of school finance and operations.
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or District patrons.

EDUCATION: Master’s degree from accredited college or university with concentration in educational administration.

Valid Washington Administrative credential with Principal endorsement.

EXPERIENCE: Successful administrative experience at the secondary level preferred.

Minimum five years successful classroom teaching experience at the secondary level preferred.

Contract Days: The work year contract is July 1 through June 30 annually. Salary based on a full-time work year of 260 days, which includes 217 work days, 13 holidays, and 30 vacation days.

Salary Range: $144,822 – $157,416

Contract Start Date: July 1, 2023
