Job Description
We currently have an opportunity for an Assistant Product Counsel in join our legal team in Plymouth MN or remotely nationwide. Under the guidance of senior product attorneys and management, the Assistant Product Counsel provides legal support for the development and maintenance of the company’s insurance products by drafting coverage forms, endorsements, and other policy documents. This position is also responsible for revising policies to respond to regulatory, legal, or business-driven changes for business unit-specific products. This role is critical to the company’s customer focus and ability to achieve profitability and growth objectives.
Responsibilities:
- With oversight and guidance of senior product attorneys, drafts and revises coverage forms, endorsements, notices, and other policy documents to ensure underwriting intent is accurately captured.
- With oversight and guidance of senior product attorneys, drafts account-specific endorsements requested by business-unit underwriters.
- With oversight and guidance of senior product attorneys, drafts and revises coverage forms, endorsements, notices, and other policy documents to respond to regulatory or legal changes or business-driven changes for business unit-specific product.
- As needed, provides support for product filings by assisting with responses to objections and, if required, explanatory memoranda.
- Provides research support for senior product attorneys regarding line of business coverage, regulatory and case law developments.
- With oversight and guidance of senior product attorneys, coordinates with functional constituents in the product development process, including Actuary, Claims, Enterprise Underwriting, and IT as needed to ensure efficient and accurate business unit product implementation.
- Identifies, raises, and elevates coverage issues that have or may have enterprise-wide impact or impact on the other businesses, including issues that may give rise to litigation, reputation, economic or regulatory risk.
Requirements:
- Basic knowledge of the legal system and developing legal and regulatory issues.
- Must have proven planning, decision making, problem solving, analytical and verbal/written communication skills.
- Must be capable to work both independently and as a highly collaborative member of a team. Must be able to work in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
- Requires the ability to maintain confidential information.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Education and Experience:
- Bar admission required and 3-5 years of relevant product development and insurance industry experience preferred.
Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires but your recruiter will share more specific compensation information with you during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $95,000 – $133,000, based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Hoboken, NJ; and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $118,000 -$138,000.
